Turning off "X users liked this".
How do I turn off the "X users liked this" feature? Great, I'm sure it's useful, but it's right in the middle of the content and, frustratingly, I keep thinking it's part of the article.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that we added an option in the settings menu in the top right to "only show likes from people I follow". If you're not interested in the social features on Reader (and therefore aren't following anyone), then this effectively turns off the notice.

Inappropriate?Agree. Ability to turn it off is a must-have. I don't care about this feature, and it further clutters my feeds.

Inappropriate?Agree, why should I care if others like the something, I like that is all that matters. I use Google Reader because it is simple well supported and does what I want. I see this feature as possibly google reader going down a road I don't care for. This would not be an issue but without the option to opt out Google reader is saying that it knows better about what I want then I do, it should go without saying that such a mentality will only cause me to look elsewhere.

Inappropriate?Agree. It's a cool feature, but I don't feel interested in this information.
I’m annoyed.

Inappropriate?I have now come to the point where my favorite articles to read are the ones that nobody likes. Please let me turn off this useless feature.
If I cared how many people liked an article I was already reading I would post it on Digg.

Inappropriate?Regardless of how useful the feature it is (it isn't, for me), it's intrusive, it's misleading, and it looks ugly.
Up until now, everything in the item content is content directly from the item's source. The exception is the star, but that's subtle enough to be ignored if you don't use it. All of the google controls have been separated from the item content, unobtrusively in the item footers.
That's the way it should be! You can't be mixing in your own controls with someone else's published content. The first time I saw it I though "oh, the guardian's installed an 'I like this' widget, how tedious".
Lose it or move it to item footers, big G! -
Inappropriate?WHY does the Google Reader team keep introducing obtrusive new features that you cant turn off? Reader is the only Google product I have seen that tries to force things down your throat like this!
I’m annoyed

Inappropriate? There's a Greasemonkey script that does this:
http://userstyles.org/styles/19590
Or, if you don't have Greasemonkey, this Lifehacker post shows you how to block the like this feature without it:

Inappropriate?Hi everyone,
Just wanted to confirm that Google employees are carefully listening to the feedback you've provided on this new feature. We're working on ways to limit the impact of this feature on those who don't value it and are strongly considering changes in the coming versions of Reader. Thanks for being vocal and helping make Google Reader better!

Inappropriate?A simple option in settings should be enough.
-
Inappropriate?Just throw the number on the footer. Your wasting 50 pixels of negative space.
* Add Star [: )] Like (25) // Share
I get that G-Reader needs to push the brand, but I just don't care how many other G-Reader users like something. If I hit "Like", the only people who will know are other people already subscribed to the feed. Really, what I'll do is hit "Share", so that Twitterfeed.com picks it up and broadcasts it to Twitter/Facebook.

Could somebody tell Brian that this doesn't work. I don't follow anybody with Google Reader, but I still have that stupid "x people liked this" popping up. -
Inappropriate?I think it's not that we are completely uninterested in the social features. Even this one is somewhat interesting. It's the placement of the information that's most annoying.
-
Inappropriate?Acutally I do hate the feature, going to turn it off right now. Thank you for listening to our concerns.

Inappropriate? Can you please add a way to disable the new features? I want my RSS reader to read RSS -- not become a 'social networking reader'.
Thanks!
