Can I buy items?
I want to buy items. You could have some exclusive items that can't be bought, and some items you can't earn but only buy. Some items that are common and cheap like 5 or 10 cents and some expensive items that are $1. I don't think I would pay much more than 25 cents for an items, but I would gladly buy some items right now because I want the freedom to create a lot of spots without fear of being low on items.

I'd like to be able to trade in icons for better icons? Collect five watering cans and get a garden for example? I'd much sooner see a 'Pro' option personally if we're talking monetisation.. -
Inappropriate?I don't like it. As soon as you start introducing paid-for options you start messing with the game mechanics.
One of the fun points about Gowalla is that you can collect items. If I can lay down $20 and get them all it doesn't seem much fun anymore.

I have to agree. -
I specifically suggested that they make it that you could not buy all the items. I would like to be able to buy some items so that I could freely create spots. If all the places I happen to go to are not in the system and I want to create spots I a faced with going down to zero items or not expanding the network of spots. -
You know that you don't need to drop an item to create a spot, right? -
Inappropriate?I'd be somewhat interested in possibly thinking about buying an icon that is either personalized in some way that I can scatter about, or an item that can only go from spot to spot but never be vaulted.
I might possibly think about considering spending cash on something like that :-) -
Inappropriate? With the exception of Gina's idea, I would not like to see items for sale. There is little incentive to hunt high and low for items that could be purchased. That being said, I can see extra item availability for heavy users, ie, if you have created over 1K spots you get a couple extra berths for items in the passport.
I’m glad you brought this up

Inappropriate?Several folks have suggested this in the past and I tend to agree that we're not keen on messing with the game mechanics at this point. Instead, we'll look to simply improve the flow of specific items where they seem to be "stuck"
-
Good, because I'm a pretty heavy user in my area, it seems like, and I still seem to run out of items a lot. -
Inappropriate? It'd be interesting to have a "Lonely Items" area of gowalla.com. A player could list the item they are looking for, one they are willing to trade for it, and their home city. Then the system could match ppl together, and arrange a time period and gowalla location where they could both check in to exchange the items. The people wouldn't have to meet each other, just both check into a location in the same time period to swap items.

We've talked about this since the beginning, and it's definitely in the plans for Gowalla. That said, it's several steps down the ladder still at this point. Good news: We're about to release our API, so maybe someone else can build this solution first! -
Oooo sounds like a challenge :D -
LOL! Go Ben Go!!! :o)
