Inconsistencies when spots are reported to be merged

This is in response to Brian's reply back to Gina on the topic: http://www.getsatisfaction.com/gowall...

I've noticed some inconsistencies when spots are reported to be merged. In most instances, the person reporting the duplicate spot to be merged is asking for the original one (earliest create date) to be retained, and to merge the newer one with it. Which is great, but there's a few where it's the opposite. Take for example Dr. Matt's thread: http://www.getsatisfaction.com/gowall... He recommends to keep his duplicate spot instead, just because it's created in the right spot and actually spelled correctly. There's a blurred line there, couldn't the first created spot have been moved and then spelled check instead? And then merge his spot with that first one? I just think it's not really fair to the first person that created the spot to have his/her spot deleted without checking with them or notifying them to fix their spot, especially if it was created in version 1.0.

I came across this same scenario over the weekend. I created a duplicate spot, because there was one that I believe was intended for the same location, yet it was across the highway and over 700m away. My intention was to create the spot so that the coordinates are documented and then report it back to you to move the first spot and then merge my spot with it. Which by the way, can you please move the original spot: http://gowalla.com/spots/19688 to where my spot is created: http://gowalla.com/spots/61491 and then merge mine with it? Thanks!

It would be awesome if we can somehow flag a spot and add a comment to it, which then notifies the spot creator to correct the spot. Or if we can have a dashboard of some kind of things to take care of, like xx # of spots need descriptions, xx # of spots which require some attention. I don't know if we'd want a time limit on it, as some players may neglect to go back to maintain the spot, but at that point, couldn't we report it to you guys to fix it manually? Just a thought. It'd just be a nice touch to check in with the first spot creator before deleting their spot.

silly I’m just trying to keep the duplicates to a minimum
