Is there a way to tell the "value" or "rarity" of an Item?
Is there a way to tell the "value" or "rarity" of an Item? I see the number associated with them in the iPhone app, but not sure what the relevance is.
Is there any plan to do expand on this?

Inappropriate?I think you just kind of get a feel for how rare an item is by playing the game, seeing what's left at various spots and how often.
You're going to come across a lot of Americanos, trains, pizzas. You aren't going to see pecans, longhorns, or Keep Austin Weird shirts very often. (Hint: If you see any of those last 3 I mentioned, take them!!)
But I guess there really isn't a fast way of determining what's rare and what isn't, which appears to be your question :) If you're into collecting and vaulting the items, just vault everything you don't already have!
I’m a vaulter.

Inappropriate? The reason I ask, is that I am apparently one of those rare people who creates more spots than I visit, so even though I will occasionally get an Item for checking into a Spot that I just created, I frequently end up with no items to drop into Spots I create or visit. My output exceeds my input. I am reluctant to to vault Items (more so now that I found out you can't unvault them) because then I will not have any to drop. My hope was to identify and vault the rarer Items until I had a surplus and then vault the more common ones. Oh well.
I’m disappointed

I'm kind of a Real Estate Developer for Gowalla. ;-) -
There's nothing wrong with checking into your previously made spots to pick up more icons along the way so that you can develop more real estate. :o) -
Inappropriate?Unless it's a very popular spot that you want to found before it fills up, those spots will always be there to found with something. If you want to vault icons, vault them and then found spots.
Just my 2 cents. :) -
Inappropriate? Can't add much except to say that a lot of times we determine the value and rarity ourselves. I know I grab a drumset or a pint whenever I see them :)
-
Inappropriate?Would it be possible to see how many times an item occurs? Or maybe multiple numbers:
1. Available to pick up
2. Held by active users
3. Held by inactive users (no activity in the last month)
4. Vaulted
I’m interested

Inappropriate?A Field Notes Pin, A Field Notes Pin, my kingdom for a Field Notes Pin..... :)

Are you in the Bay Area? (Looks like your pic is at the GGB) -
Inappropriate? One way I guess at value is by looking at the item number. This is especially true if you have just randomly found the item, if it has a low item number it's either new or rare :)
