Inappropriate? There is currently not an option to switch between metric and imperial measurements, but we are definitely considering adding it to a future release of Gowalla. Thanks for the great idea.

Inappropriate?I would really like to see miles instead of metric. This is America, isn't it? :)
I’m tounge in cheek
-
Not everywhere it's not! -
Yes... Gowalla is quite global. -
Imagine that, there's a world outside of the U.S... -
Inappropriate? Now, I'm just guessing here, but according to the Apple documentation, the values for Core Location accuracy are in metric (specifically, "Nearest Ten Meters," "Hundred Meters," "Kilometer," and "Three Kilometers"), so it would make sense if the values Gowalla is spitting out are related to that.
That's not to say that the metric values can't be converted (1km = 0.6mi)...
I’m happy some of this Cocoa is sinking in
-
Inappropriate?I didn't like kilometers at first, but I quickly got used to them.
-
AND you suddenly felt more European! =^) -
Not only that... I believe I spoke with an accent for awhile too! :) -
So... it's not just me, then? Carry on. -
You mean that accent of yours isn't real!? The next think you know, you'll be saying that Positology is made up, too. -
No, no, just a very short while. It went away as I got used to measuring distance in meters.
Uh.... Todd... Positology IS real... I mean, it says so right on the wiki! If it's on the wiki, dude... don't question the wiki...
:) -
ahem... erm... to be quite sure, Mr. Ginsberg, much like going back to your hometown will draw out an accent you've long since forgotten, so too has this particular game placed me squarely back to my roots.
And I defy you to disprove the legitimacy of my lofty educational status! -
I wouldn't doubt the legitimacy of any of your degrees at all. That wall full of diplomas surely must be real, especially since the wiki says it, and the wiki doesn't lie. -
Inappropriate? Please keep sane, rational measurements (aka Metric). Any system whose basis is the width of barleycorn isn't worth taking seriously. Also, most of the rest of the world uses Metric.
I’m not TRYING to start a metric/imperial flamewar, but if that happens, you can blame me.

re: 'width of barleycorn' - hah! -
Inappropriate? Please, please, please give us Standard (or Imperial or whatever) -- we don't think in Metric in the US!
I’m frustrated
-
Sure we do. -
Most of us do not. But again, you are missing the point. Those of us who would like to see Standard on here, as an option, want just that — an option. We are not asking to replace the Metric with Standard, but simply to have the option of choosing. -
Inappropriate?Stay with Metric! Yes I am American and the Imperial system is horrible....
The rest of the world is on Metric I don't know why we as American's shouldn't be?
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?1 metre was originally defined as 1⁄10,000,000 of the distance between the North Pole and Earth's equator as measured along the meridian passing through Paris. The metre was later redefined as the length of a particular bar of platinum-iridium alloy; then in terms of the wavelength of light emitted by a specified atomic transition; and now is defined as the distance travelled by light in an absolute vacuum during 1⁄299,792,458 of a second.
I’m frustrated with the French.
-
Inappropriate?Frankly, I'd rather have my barleycorn measurement, thank you very much.
But you're missing the point here. No one is asking you to get rid of the Metric. We are simply asking for an option in preferences to choose between Metric and Standard.
I’m confident that reason will prevail.
-
I agree, having both makes the most sense. But I can easily figure out the conversion in my head if needed, so it's no biggie to me. -
I'm not really bothered either way. But then I live in the UK where we have a mix of imperial and metric... Metric is far simpler and easier to understand though. Furlong anyone?! -
Inappropriate?Keep it metric! The US needs to change to metric anyway. Gowalla can set the metrication trend.
