Thanks for the feedback. We're actively working on both reducing the chance for duplicate in the first place and putting more tools in the hands of users.
But in the meantime, definitely feel free to post any spots that need to be fixed :)

Inappropriate?If you report duplicate spots on this board they will merge them. Be sure to include the spot numbers for both/all spots in the report. -

If there's a way to have the application avoid creating duplicate spots in the first place, that would be preferable (IMO) to having it merge duplicate spots.
For instance, if there was a way to program the application to recognize that the user is creating a spot with the same name (or even very similar) in the same GPS location as an existing spot and then ask before creating the spot, that would be cool. (Similar to the way that the support board will look for similar questions and ask users if any of those are applicable before creating their new question.)
If not, then a merge ability for the website would be nice. At least that way when a user accidentally creates a duplicate spot, they can merge it with the original themselves instead of opening a 'ticket' here.

Inappropriate?This is certainly needed. I had a hard time loading the nearest spots on my iPhone yesterday when I wanted to check in on a location. I was also unsure whether the spot already existed. Since I needed a spot to be able to check in I created a new one and now when I'm home I see that there are two...
