Hey Guys, quick update:
As far as Blackberry, iPhone, and Android apps go, we're talking soon--by all means before Christmas, and almost certainly significantly sooner.
For all you WinMo folks, Boxmonkey said it right: you won't be disappointed. There might be a little bit of a wait, but we've got our eye on the ball.
Thanks for all your patience, guys.

Inappropriate?Hey Jeff,
Thanks for your kind words! I'm thrilled to count you among friends, and I really appreciate you taking the time to ask.
As far as mobile, we're working on apps for the 'big 3' in the short-term (iPhone, Android/G1, Blackberry) and want to get those out as soon as possible (obviously). We haven't specifically looked at any other platforms after that, but that means we're also not opposed to anything either.
The answer, in short: unsure, but we'll let you know!
Thanks again, Jeff, and let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

Thanks for the reply Ben! I totally understand, I cant have my cake and eat it too lol. but I look forward to the new apps for this GREAT product (love the platform and it is very user friendly) and again keep up the good work bro!!!!!! -
whilst your at it could you build an app for the e71 i know its not very popular in the US but its very popular in europe :O) -
Can we expect anything on the palm's web os platform? -
Inappropriate?I'd like to see this on Android. I use Grooveshark all the time on my desktop. Excellent application. Any updates on your progress?
-
Inappropriate?Windows Mobile is what I'm waiting for.
Would love an update. -
Inappropriate?I'd like to add my vote for Windows Mobile too.
I just discovered Grooveshark today and would like to say 'Thank you!!!'.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?I have a Nokia e71 too but releasing a s60 v3 and v5 version or mobile web access would be better.
I’m excited
-
Agreed, Mobile Web Access is the way to go in this case. Why bother with catering to 27 different platforms? -
Definitely! Mobile Web Access is the best way to go. If the different platform road is taken, I'd throw in a request for the Samsung Impression. -
Inappropriate?Big 3? Windows Mobile has the largest market share in smartphones. Don't ignore windows mobile like pandora. Flash is headed to windows mobile soon too.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I too am confused as how Android gets to be one of the 'Big 3' and Windows Mobile does not. It seems that the smart phone platform that has one of the largest penetration levels gets ignored the most. There are so many companies, large and small, that write for the iPhone and just completely ignore the WinMo customers.
I’m sad
-
I don't think you guys will be disappointed either, you might just have to wait a bit longer. -
Inappropriate?honestly its easiest to develop both for windows mobile and android, however the iphone is popular amongst women and non technical people who have their credit cards ready to splurge at some silly twinkling buttons. and thats why everyone thinks its the end of the world to develop for the ihpone.
i was just about to get grooveshark vip, but saying that winMo is on the back burners and the other phones have been given higher priority has made me rethink my decision. gonna stick with the free website for now.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?i joined g/s vip and think its great!
its better value than either spotify or last fm and i also think that by supporting them financialy i might be able to help a little towards r & d and help speed up the mobile apps program
-
Inappropriate?oh i am sure their vip is amazing since the regular service itself is fantastic. however without giving any release schedule for a winmo client, im not willing to put in my money. saying that winmo is not on their list, ticked me off. gonna use the free one until they are really serious about platforms that matter.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I can't wait to see the Android app! Any idea when we can expect it? Any way I can get a beta?
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Once Grooveshark comes out in Iphone/Android it will be incredible, subscribing to see when this will happen, any timeline?
I’m excited

Sweet can't wait that will revolutionize music on the next gen phones! -
They have disabled my internet radio at work. I live for the day that I will have the grooveshark->android->speakers link. -
Curious... are you writing native clients for each platform or some kind of HTML5 client with AAC-HE stream? -
I saw the iPhone app was submitted to AppStore a few months ago, so are you having trouble with Apple rejecting it? -
Inappropriate?

Barguast from xda-developers has released a client for Windows Mobile. Plz note that this is still in the early stages and has a few bugs. More features will be added shortly

Inappropriate?I am a palm user. I support you guys all the way. (FLORIDA WOOT WOOT)
Your vip service is awesome. I will take a stab at creating my own :) Just need your API DOC
NEVER MIND GOT AN ANSWER FROM SKYLER ABOUT THE API :( -
Inappropriate?Good job making an iphone App. now all u have to do is wait for apple to reject it and throw it out. maybe then u will make an app for an open developer platform.
I’m amused
-
Inappropriate? No love for Symbian? I believe it's still the most common smartphone platform worldwide. I would love grooveshark on my N97! (please no nokia vs. Apple comments)
Thanks!
I’m mildly dissapointed.
-
That's coming too. If a platform is "smart" we're working on it. ;) -
Inappropriate?During Android's ADC2 Grooveshark released an app that I instantly fell in love with. I still use it today.
I’m excited
-
I too loved tried it through adc2 but it made me uninstall it. Is there any way to get it back? -
Inappropriate?Android app would be great!
-
Coming soon. :) -
Inappropriate? Also very interested in a Symbian application. Doesn't it have the largest share hold on the smartphones market ? And it doesn't get to be in the BIG3 :/ But Blackberry which is such a minority gets a BIG tag ;(
I’m confused.
-
We're working on it! -
Oh, that surely is excellent news ! -
Inappropriate?the Big 3... hmmz although Iphone was a big Hype(almost ending unless the Iphone Nano turns to be true) And android is the upcomming hype..they come nowhere near close to Symbian... To be exact even your big 3 combined are a lot smaller then Symbians marketshare (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sma...)
I’m a disappointed VIP
-
Inappropriate?I think the big 3 are iPhone, Blackberry, and Symbian - but you definitely have to account for Windows Mobile, webOS, and Android. As a developer, my gut tells me that this won't be easy unless all the platforms support the same audio codecs unless the audio will be transcoded on the fly from the server side for each platform. Even so, the work involved in writing native clients for each platform, getting them into the corresponding marketplaces, and providing support and future upgrades would be a veritable nightmare with a small staff.
My 2 cents: I think the key here is to choose one platform with large visibility and low cost of promotion and make it popular (think iPhone). Then, once there's some momentum and revenue, get some additional investment and build for the next most popular mobile media platform. It's a model that has worked for dozens of apps that started on the iPhone or Blackberry.
Not sure how one could right a cross-platform client other than a web-based application. Even so, the development challenges would be considerable. With all that said, as a VIP member, I'm totally psyched to see what you guys produce. Good luck!
I’m excited
-
i,m not too sure about the blackberry being part of this equation i think its more likely to be the android platform alongside the iphone and s60 platforms, i think at this moment in time the webos is too small and winmo is going the way of the dodo! -
Inappropriate?I just got it on Android thru ADC and i am truely impressed. I use pandora on both a Hero and Palm Pre but the fact that grooveshark allows me to add songs that i love rather than hoping pandora plays it based on my selection has turned me into a HUGE fan!
-
Where did you get the download link for it? My daughter has the new Motorola Droid and would love to try it out on her phone. -
Ditto that, where do we get it?? Don't leave us in the dark like this! -
goto the android market place and download the app to vote for the android development contest. After that just keep rating the diffrent apps till you get the one for Grooveshark. For me it was the second one I rated. Keep in mind that once you rate the app, it will deleted from you phone. Hope this helps -

Inappropriate?I got the ADC2 last night and loved GS-Mobile, too bad it was my first app to rate and once I rated it, it went bye bye. Have to wait for it's actual release I guess, can't wait!
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate? If you guys are VIP and you promise to rate the ADC2 app, I can hook up a limited number of people with the beta of the app. It's an updated version so it should be less buggy too.
Contact me directly (jay at grooveshark dotcom) with your Grooveshark username and I will hook you up with a link. :) -
Thanks to the overwhelming response here we have enough beta testers for now. If you've emailed me and haven't heard from me yet, please be patient, everyone who has emailed me up til now will get a chance to try it out unless you are running droid (it's not 100% compatible with droid yet but we are working on it). Due to the holiday and having actual coding that needs to be done, I'm behind on replying to emails requesting access to the beta, so please be patient. :) -
yes please. -
Ok guys, the current round of testing is open to *all* VIP users on both Blackberry and Android at mobile.grooveshark.com. Android users can also find it in the app store.
However if you are a Droid user like me, keep in mind that there are still some major issues with Android 2.0, mainly playback related. For me only about 50% of songs successfully play on my Droid, even though our other Android phones have almost no problems. -
Is the intention to keep the App only for VIP or will there be a paid App option for no VIP's ? -
Currently it is only for VIPs that;s one of the perks of showing your support. Once all the bugs are worked and everyone is happy with it i think it will go public. just go ahead and pay three bucks for at least one month and try it. People are already rating it with one start because they can't use it. that is annoying as hell. Three dollars for a month is almost nothing. At least show your support -

Inappropriate?Saw Grooveshark on ADC2 and loved it! It was soo cool. I can't wait until you release it.
-
me too although it is possible to use grooveshark on the s60 platform through skyfire, i have it up and running on my e71 and whilst there are bugs it does work -
Inappropriate? If there's already an app why you guys don't just release it?... at least VIP users should have access to a ALPHA, beta or whatever it is.
months since you guys said "soon". -
If you're a VIP, you can get the beta Android client. There was a post on this page about it a while back. -
Inappropriate?@DigitalPioneer, yeah... the problem is that you will never get a reply to your request.
I guess the limited number of people was reached very fast and i got late to the party. but at least you should get a "sorry, next time" answer.
Well... i guess there's nothing else but wait :(
EDIT: i just received an answer a minute ago... Bad thing the motorola droid isn't compatible yet, but still i'm holding my breath for the future best app of the year.
I’m frustrated
-
I sent them an email and got a response back 2 days later with a link to the app for android. It is great. And Grooveshark is actually great with communication. They actually respond -
Inappropriate?Hey Grooveshark people, hows that Apple app acceptance coming along? obviously apple is too facist to approve this app. how about working on windows mobile, where there is no apple to go through?
I’m amused
-
Yeah I'm curious too how Apple is responding in their infamous App Review process, I'm waiting for Grooveshark before I buy an Iphone, may not happen. -

Our CEO uses a Palm Pixi and we have two Palm Pres in the office, so I'll let you guess the answer to that question. ;) -
Inappropriate? What is the latest scoop on the Iphone Application?
