buffering
Hi,
I just created an account after a friend referred me to your service. Looks great btw.
Unfortunately I am suffering constant streaming interruptions. Your app keeps reporting I dont have enough bandwidth. I am on a 6MB connection and I have nothing else running in the background aside from email. I have run a speed test and I am getting 3-5MBps consistently.
Are you guys experiencing load issues at the moment? any ideas or recommendations?
Thanks in advance,
Brendan

Inappropriate?I suffer from exactly the same problem. Even when I'm doing nothing else but streaming music while doing the dishes :)
Never had any problem streaming radio from any other service or iTunes or the likes, only on grooveshark lately I get this report...
Could it be a memory leak in the app? or maybe the heavy graphics in the flash interface? I don't know.
I’m bummed out, considering leaving grooveshark behind :(

Inappropriate?Unfortunately you guys are not the only ones that are experiencing this issue. We are looking into it right now and will keep you guys updated as we learn more. Sporadic network / bandwidth issues are not the easiest thing in the world to track down so please bear with us while we figure this out.
Right now we are looking into our ISP and trying to determine if the issues are up network from us or if it is an issue with one of our streaming server.
If you guys could, the next time you have issues try the following and post the results back to this thread. The results will help us figure out where the issues is so we can resolve it quickly and get you back to playing music :)
- What time did you have the problem ?
- Try moving to another song quickly, do you have the same issue ?
-- If so, try reloading Grooveshark. Do you still have the issue ?
- Try downloading http://grooveshark.com/songA.mp3 . How fast does it download (kpbs, seconds) ?
- Try downloading http://beta.grooveshark.com:8080/song... . How fast does it download (kpbs, seconds) ?
- Try downloading http://is.gd/hsvn. How fast does it download (kpbs, seconds) ?

Inappropriate?I have constant issues with this and it has actually forced me and a few people I know to look for an alternative player (which we didn't want to do).
Anyways I came back to find a song I couldnt find anywhere else, and the problems are still existing. (So the time of occurence is right now). I downloaded all three files, here are the results:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SongA - started really slow ~20kbps gained up to 300kbps then slowed down and finished at ~70kbps, but it was still dropping.
SongB - pretty stead around 200+kbps
Rondo No 3 - ~300-500kbps
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really hope you guys are able to get these issues worked out. I want to come back!
Edit: Also forgot to mention that the main browser being used in my case is Firefox. However this still occurs on Opera, Chrome and IE (for me and a few others) -
Inappropriate?- What time did you have the problem ?
Time of day doesn't seem to mater
- Try moving to another song quickly, do you have the same issue ?
Yes, skipping does not fix anything.
-- If so, try reloading Grooveshark. Do you still have the issue ?
Yes
- Try downloading http://grooveshark.com/songA.mp3 . How fast does it download (kpbs, seconds) ?
Around 15-20kb/sec (takes way longer to download then on other services for a 4mb file)
- Try downloading http://beta.grooveshark.com:8080/song... . How fast does it download (kpbs, seconds) ?
This one is a no go at this moment (cant seem to find the file or something...)
- Try downloading http://is.gd/hsvn. How fast does it download (kpbs, seconds) ?
A strong 400kb/sec wich is nice :)
browser = Firefox but same issue in any other browser or operating system.
Hope to be able to stream grooveshark again soon...
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Happens all the time.
Moving to another song doesnt help.
Reloading Grooveshark doesnt help.
- Try downloading http://grooveshark.com/songA.mp3 . How fast does it download (kpbs, seconds) ?
Around 15-25kB/sec
- Try downloading http://beta.grooveshark.com:8080/song... . How fast does it download (kpbs, seconds) ?
Says, "source file could not be read".
- Try downloading http://is.gd/hsvn. How fast does it download (kpbs, seconds) ?
800kb/sec
browser = Firefox.
Have you guys considered using more of the 'flash player' cache ? not sure if its usable in a streaming context though.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I don't seem to have a problem with this except on one or two files and my internet connection's terrible.
Try increasing the size of space flash allows Grooveshark to use on your computer, because the file's downloaded to your computer then played locally before it's deleted as far as I know.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I have tried this and lately the buffering problems seem to be much less.
It does give the message sometimes still but not as often as before.
Don't know if it's because of the flash setting or maybe grooveshark did some tweaking but I'm glad I can use the player again :D
I’m getting happier

Inappropriate?Hi Brendan,
I'm Michael from Frankfurt in Germany, yeah I have the same problem. even with my DSL Internet Connection with more than 4000 kbit downstream. Listening to other free music websides is not a problem.., I think the audio buffering isn't so strong which is comming from the grooveshark webservers..sometimes I have no interruptions, and the next time I have.., I'm frustrated too.. I hope that the guys will solve this...
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I've been having buffering problems ever since the new grooveshark launched. The connection I'm on just clocked in at 35Mbit from speakeasy. The music stops every 15 seconds, roughly, making it nearly un-listen-to-able.
I’m frustrated

Devin - When you start playing a song, do you see the gray buffering bar in the player load all the way to the end, or does the little "circle" (that shows you what point you're at in the song) reach the end of what has buffered already?
Thanks,
Ben -
Inappropriate? The buffer bar is slow to load at times, so the "circle" hits the end of the buffered segment, and the song pauses. I first experienced this problem yesterday when i first used the new interface (which is very nice, btw). I began to experience it again this morning, and so posted my findings. In the past hour it has been less of a problem, but hasn't disappeared completely.
I’m feeling better

Inappropriate? There seem to be some network problems at times for any given area, I would suggest just waiting a few hours or even a day then posting on here if there are any problems.
Another solution is to clear your browser's cache.
Thanks,
James Hartig

Inappropriate?I would be nice if there was a way to adjust the buffer. So that while on a slower connection you could set it to buffer longer and then play. would make for longer in between songs but maybe the song wouldn't stop a bunch in the middle.

Inappropriate? For the last week I've been having the buffering problems too. I have to pause the track at the start and wait 10 to 15 minutes before hitting play. Grooveshark is useless at the mo, I don't want to go back to Spotify.
