Overview of each type of bot and how to use it?

I signed up for tweetbots the other day after noticing that 37signals is using it, and am interested in what it does, but it's not immediately clear to me what each kind of bot does and how to use it.

Is there a FAQ or overview of what the bots do somewhere that I'm missing?
