Account view to feature accumulated accounts (taken from account group)
It would be great if I selected an account group in the profit/loss view and there would be the same possibility to have the account view for all accounts under the account group. Is this planned?
I use the account groups primarily for categorizing my expenses (rather than prefixing the expense account with category:accountname, because this is not very useful for inserting transactions in a fast way).

Inappropriate? The problem with that suggestion is that moneyGuru has no idea, when you add a new transaction, where to put it. What exactly do you want to achieve here? If you want have a profit/loss graph for a group in particular, you can use the Account exclusion feature.
-
Inappropriate?Ah ok, I got the point; the add transaction in this "accumulated" view will be useless. What I want to achieve is something like this:
I group some expense accounts to a group called "lifestyle"; there I'll find accounts for books&music, going out, clothes, and so on. For example now, when I browse through the months looking on the graphs in the profit&loss view, I see that the lifestyle group uses almost the same amount of money, except one month. Then I want to see all transactions for all accounts to get the idea why this was that high in this particular month. I hope you were able to understand my idea ;) -
Inappropriate?Yes, I get the idea. That's an interesting use case. I'll have to think about the best way to design a feature that would allow you to do that.
The most obvious idea I have right now would be to extend the account exclusion feature to the Transaction view. This way, if you want to figure out what happened in your "lifestyle" group, you just exclude everything except that group and go take a look at the Transaction view to get a list of filtered transactions. -
Inappropriate? That would be a good way to do it. But at the moment I got no clue how to design it (considering usability), because the transaction view is so list oriented. Maybe something like the filter feature from Adobe Lightroom would do the trick best; I'll attach an image so that you get an idea how this works there. (and if you like getting suggestions ;)

The text values are (translated to English):
Library filter: Text / Attributes / Metadata / None - Userdefined filter
Text "Filename" "contains" ".cr2"
With this user defined filter one can filter almost everything - maybe this would be a good way to do transaction filtering in moneyGuru. Amount between <lowerbound> and <upperbound> for example, and so on.

Inappropriate?I've been thinking about this some more, and I think that my original proposition of using excluded accounts in the Net Worth and Profit views to filter the Transactions view is a bad one. It ends up being confusing, and it's hard to decide if such a filter should be filter transactions out when one of its affected account is excluded, or all of them.
However, I'm not convinced that a complex filtering system is the answer either. I'm thinking that a tag based solution would be the best one. You add a "lifestyle" tag to all relevant accounts/groups/transactions then in the search box you just type "tag: lifestyle". However, that requires implementing a whole tagging system, which is out of scope for v1.5.
What I'll do for this release is to add two filter types that you can type in the search box "account: account1, account2" and "group: group1, group2". Because you already have your "lifestyle" accounts grouped, this will be enough for your needs for now. However, I'll pour some more thoughts in an eventual tagging system for future releases. -
Inappropriate?A tagging system seems to be an interesting thought - I'll think about it and will add comments, if you don't mind.

Inappropriate? The filter in the transaction view works good enough - but a sum would be useful here, like the one in account view.
-
Inappropriate?I haven't put a sum in there because this number doesn't mean much. It's just the sum of all cash flow that happened in the date range. As you mentioned in your other thread, it would be useful for filtered transactions, but that's another matter altogether.
