How do I Find and Delete Older versions of Software/Applications?
I have two application directories. I want to remove the older version of the applications and keep the newer (most up to date) versions, regardless of the directory in which they reside. However, if the two are the same version, I want to specify the reference directory.
Is there a way to do this or does it already do this?
Modification date doesn't really make sense because this is changed just by opening the application.

Inappropriate? There is no such feature in dupeGuru, sorry. However, I'm not sure that your statement about modification date being changed every time the application is launched is accurate (are we talking about Mac OS X or Windows here?). I made a little test just right now, and only the "last opened" date changed when launching an application. In any case, creation time should work.
As for the reference directory thing, if you want the version of the app to have priority over the directory, don't use the "reference" feature from the Directories panel. Perform the scan, then use the Power Marker mode to sort the dupes by the "Directory" column. Select all dupes coming from your "Reference" directory, then use "Make Selected Reference". Then, you can use the Delta Values feature on the Creation column to make the latest dupes go reference. -
Inappropriate?I am using Mac OS X. Date modified changes if I have moved it from the directory in which it was originally installed.
If it can't sort for version, can you tell me how I stop dupeGuru from searching all the application sub-directories (which for larger apps may include 100s of files). I'm guessing there is actually no way to use dupeGuru for this purpose, because it returned several thousand files when I tried to clean out my Applications folders.
I’m disappointed

Inappropriate?Actually, dupeGuru does handle application files as expected (as one bundle instead of as a directory with tons of files in it). So when it encounters an application matching with another application, it will not list all sub-files individually in the results.
Are you sure you are using the latest version?
