There is no easy universal way to do this as we recently found that there was a design flaw with localisation of date. Although there is a setting that allows you to change the actual date format, this is not actually used in code everywhere as the format has been hard-coded in some places. We are working to resolve this asap. Sorry about the British date mandate until then :(
