As Edo pointed out above, there are many different ways to get your updates published, although the simplest for a text only update would be to just register an account on HelloTxt.com. Click "Add Socials" and configure twitter and tumblr by selecting their respective icons and inserting your login info for each. HelloTxt.com will remember you once you are logged in, and you can type directly into the homepage, clicking "Update Status" to send the text out.
