Another cracked engine block in 2006 Civic
My 2006 Honda Civic has a cracked engine block which seems to be not all that uncommon and very expensive to have fixed ($3,000 - $5,000). This is apparently a casting defect that has occurred in other '06 Civics both within warranty limits and in cars out of warranty or moderate mileage and high mileage. Haven't heard any stories of Honda stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility yet either. The dealership I asked to help me said the problem was caused by overheating, but it was totally the other way around - the car overheated because the cracked block allowed coolant to leak out!!! If they don't take care of me, I'll be needing to find another brand of car to buy and dissuade anyone I know or meet to do the same.

Inappropriate?I had the same problem happen to me yesterday. I was driving to a family members house when I smelled the smell of coolant. I pulled over to the nearest park and saw that I lost an incredible loss of it all over the road. Luckily Pep Boys was open on a Sunday. Boy was I ready to faint when their specialist showed the cracked engine block. Today, I'm hoping the dealer will at least cover the majority of expenses even though I am at 70 K miles. This is abviously a manufacturer defect. Thanks for posting this.

Inappropriate?Folks we all need to get these complaints to the lemon law office. If there is enough people with this problem only that law firm has enough backing to make our voices heard to HONDA...individually Honda will NOT deal with us. Please tell them your story at the following website....

Inappropriate? My 2006 Civic was diagnosed with a cracked block yesterday. The car has 66K miles and has been meticiously maintained by my Honda dealer. The crack was discovered when I took the car in for a yearly safety inspection. Other than literally two drops of antifreeze on the garage floor, there was no warning and no over heating. My dealership is replacing the engine and providing me with a new Accord for transportation for $100.00! If you have properly maintained your car and your dealer has the service record, you shouldn't have a problem with Honda replacing the engine at a nominal cost.
I’m happy!
