I agree that I don't really like it that clicking on a person's name opens up a reply box to tweet them. If the person is someone I already follow, then the idea to see their recent tweets is probably a good one. However, if I see a new name of someone I'm not following, then if I click on their name, I'd like to see their profile, as I am interested to know more about them and see if I want to follow them.

Yes--frustrating to have to jump out to Twitter to find profile and follow them.

Just a reminder, you can follow people straight from BrightKit. Go into the search Tab on one of your Twitter profiles and you'll see a "follow" button next to each search result.

Sounds like there's some different things that could happen depending on context. Show recent tweets, view profile, or reply.

I also expected that there would be a way to click someone's name and get sent out to their Twitter page, or at least a HootSuite page that has all the same content as their Twitter profile.

If I'm going to use this as a Twitter client (and I'd really like to) it should at least provide the basic functionality of Twitter.com.

To me it seems way more likely that someone clicking on an @reply inside a tweet is going to expect to see that profile (the way it works on Twitter.com) and not reply to the person.

We're rolled out an update that change this behavior.

Clicking on @username within a tweet will take you to the Search tab and show you all recent tweets from that person.

If you hover over a user's avatar image, you'll see a pop-up bubble that contains information about them, as well as a link to their Twitter profile page.
