Consolation Prize
Kitty & Eric
How about a consolation prize (product coupon) attached to the "sorry you were not selected"? This way the 15,000 - 20,000 folks not selected will have the sting of rejection possibly softened.
For example velveeta has on their web page a coupon for $1 off purchase. For those not selected a "special - non HP Host" marked coupon could be attached to the rejection email. It could be marked in some way that only rejected people get the coupon. That way HP could actually keep track of how many were printed. When coupon is used the company could be also to keep track of how many people utilized coupon and gain more exposure for their product.
Simple prize that most companies are currently providing on their own web pages. That is where I got my ziplock coupon, velveeta coupon, etc.
What do you think?
It might help soften the blow of rejection with minimal cost to company. Actually when you think the company is already making coupons available to customers this would only add to their customer base without increasing advertising dollars.
With the economy the way it is many people are turning to coupons more now than ever.

Inappropriate? What a great idea! And I could add, “Great minds think alike”... because in fact we typically do encourage our partners to consider offering applicants some token of appreciation for their time and interest in applying, just as you suggest. It doesn’t always happen, but a number of House Parties have included coupons and other special thanks to applicants who weren’t selected as hosts. We agree with you: If people care enough about our events to take the time to apply, and are willing to open up their homes and invite their friends to help celebrate a favorite product, then we’d love to see those people get some additional expression of appreciation. Thanks for reminding us how important this is, and keep the great ideas coming!

Inappropriate?Marc C.
Just wanted to let you know that Alpine has responded. I received a letter in the mail this week along with a consolitation coupon prize. It was a sweet victory. Maybe more companies will continue this practice.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? Now I just am wondering "why didn't I think of that?" lol....Great idea! I would always love to get something even though I did not get to host a party. I mean people sit there and fill out lengthy surveys to "possibly" host a party, and then they get rejected 75% of the time. So I think this would not only help the companies but it will keep members on this site..
I’m should I just bite my tongue?

Inappropriate?I agree with brie, it will get people to keep applying if they know that even though they are not selected to be a host they will still get something even if it is just a coupon.
I’m in agreement

Inappropriate?I so, agree. I was one of the applicants that recieved a coupon from Alpine Lace, and it made me feel good. Even if we don't use their coupons, we keep thier products closer and more on a personal level.
I’m thankful !!!

Inappropriate?I applied for the Alpine Cheese House Party and was denied, how ever to my surprise I received a coupon for a $1 by mail apologizing for not being able to participate in the House Party, That was very nice of the company to do so and last week I received a email with another coupon for $1 off again. How cool is that!
I’m Happy!
