Bought an HP laptop a few years ago. Pavilion series. The jack is designed terribly, it's not connected to the case, and it's only held to the motherboard by two small beads of solder. Naturally, after about a year and a half, the jack came right off the motherboard. Repeated calls to customer service resulted in me being told that the *only* thing they, or any HP repair service, could do, was replace the motherboard for approximately $800. I paid $1200 for the laptop. Even though this was apparently a common problem with the series, and a known issue, they still maintainted that I would have to buy a new motherboard. I thought that I was seriously screwed, and I almost didn't have any computer for university... until a friend took it apart and put in a new jack for the grand total of $4.
Seriously, 2 beads of solder aren't going to hold anything, especially a power jack that undergoes a fair (but not unreasonable) deal of stress.
I purchased a Pavillion DV9000T laptop a little over a year ago. The LCD casing has broken apart. Apparantly there is a design flaw where the heat generated by the unit destroys the casing.
In addition, the LCD has now gone blank and nothing can be seen. I have tried rebooting to no avail. Could it be the graphics card?
HP supervisors do not return my calls. I spent over $2500. on this laptop.
