Battery discharges too fast, Laptop locks me out!

I have the Pavillion 6500. If my laptop is powered on and inactive for any period of time I run the risk of being locked out. As others have described I get the black screen, the keys are lit, but nothing I do restores the monitor. Are there any patches available for this issue. I noticed this issue in the first month.
Also if I use the battery it dies within an hour. I recieved an email about the batteries overheating, the serial numbers on my machine matched all that were listed in the email, yet when I ran the online analysis I was told that my battery is not eligible for the recall.
