Fan's Gone Crazy!
6 month old Pavilion dv 6500t. All of the sudden the fan will start to run every few seconds regardless of what I'm doing. Then it might just ramp up even higher! Then just drop down, etc. Might be doing something; might not. No rhyme or reason. Laptop doesn't feel hot -- it just kicks on.
The only thing I can remember doing at all, is like others, I downloaded some updates from HP's website in the last few days. I think: monitor, LAN, and wireless adapters.

Inappropriate?i think you might have downloaded latest HP BIOS updates. HP had a mega problem with its motherboard design resulting in overheat and subsequent failure of the machine. so to mask the issue HP came up with a new bios updates increasing fan speed to help the chips run cooler.
I happened to be among unlucky people downloaded this update. this was a biggest mistake and real issue is it is irreversible. even if you download and install old bios it won't work.
now i have a laptop that has a fan running constantly thanks to brilliant work from HP's engineers. my 3 year old compaq presario 1700 p3 1ghz laptop runs much quieter than this.
one thing i know for sure is I won't be purchasing another HP product ever.
unhappy HP dv6500t owner.
I’m furious

Inappropriate?Welcome to the HP experience. HP is obviously NOT the same company that used to make reliable products!
We have two problems, one much like yours. Have an HP all-in-one that recently quit under warranty. HP fairly quickly sent us a 'refurbed' unit. Good deal, until it failed to work out of the box! Issue still not resolved.
Other problem is with the laptop dv6700 I had built by HP on their web site ($1200) for use by my granddaughter. Long story short, after months of frustration over the phone with HP techs troubleshooting this thing, it finally went to dark screen mode and will not boot beyond that - though the mouse still works, if you like watching the arrow cursor move. A self-inflicted problem occurred when my grandkid's other granddad took the machine home to try to get it to boot up. By the time he discovered it was not going to work and returned the thing, it was now 19 days out of warranty.
After having further conversations with HP tech and managers who only offered 'pay' to repair services, I have since mailed Mr. Hurd a personal letter describing this issue. HP, not sure about Mr. Hurd, received that letter on October 7, 2009; I have yet to receive as much as a courtesy reply.
My understanding is that HP had/has problems with their dv model laptops. Failing any resolution, I am looking for others in similar situations to pursue a possible class action lawsuit.
I’m thinking HP is on the Circuit City road
