How do I remove the Vongo SW from my HP Laptop DV2000 series?
Vongo is one of those pre-loaded SW apps on the HP laptop I bought last January. I removed the sw as the administrator of the laptop and it was gone... or so I thought. Over vacation in August, I created a limited user for my son to use the laptop and Vongo tried to load, even though I thought I had removed it. Since the limited user account could not load software the PC was in an endless loop of trying to install or cancel the Vongo installation and then being told the user didn't have authorization to do so then trying to do it all over again after the error pop up. Eventually I switched the user to admin level, removed the Vongo sw and switched it back to limited, but the Vongo "CRAP" is still on my PC. How do I remove it altogether since I do not want it and didn't buy HP for this virus acting like sw program...

Inappropriate?I agree. I'd like a simple set of instructions for removing all the preinstalled software. In addition to the variety of unused software that came with my DV8000, there is also an additional software application that runs periodically to check for updates for the preinstalled software. (Not HP Software Update, but something else). But this disfunctional software update tool will only install one update at a time, even when several updates are available. The result is that I have an every growing backlog of updates for software I don't want, and yet I feel compelled to install the updates to address any security risks that the software might cause. How frustrating!

Inappropriate? It is sad to think that you have to uninstall the software from each user profile - that's just too sneaky.
Try uninstalling from Control Panel's "Add/Remove Programs" mechanism - this is supposed to remove software globally.
Otherwise you might need to get your hands dirty:
1. Look for the app in the "All Users" and "Default User" Startup profiles, eg:
- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
- C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
2. Go into the registry, and remove Run keys for the app. *AT YOUR OWN RISK - BE CAREFUL IN THERE!*
- Start the registry editor from Start|Run: regedit
- You can probably find the keys in one or more of the following locations:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows|CurrentVersion\Run
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows|CurrentVersion\RunOnce
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows|CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx
- HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows|CurrentVersion\Run
Good luck!

Inappropriate?download "revo-uninstaller" and use it to uninstall the program, it checks for registry trails left by programs that don't completely remove themselves.
