HP Pavilion tx 1000 laptop screen going black
I have a HP Pavilion tx 1000 laptop. Yesterday I was using it normally and all of a sudden the screen went black. When I turned it back on, a small warning icon (yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it) appeared at the bottom left of the screen in the toolbar. It has done this once before. Is the computer just overheating? I am worried because this computer is replacing another HP laptop I had before this where one day, the screen suddenly went black and the computer wouldn't turn on again at all.

Inappropriate? The tx1000 series of machines, with the AMD processor, all have an over heating problem. Any laptop that has a warning sticker in the top right corner over the processor warning of this fact suffers from a design problem in my opinion. Hint don't put it on your laptop for any period of time. I used my tx1000 as a traveling machine for work. I thought it would be good to take with me to do correspondence, simple powerpoint presentations, and watch a movie while I was waiting for a delayed flight.
My tx1000 packed it in at the end of September. The HP repair center I took it to did a full diagnostic of the machine. They eliminated the AMD chip as a problem (the source of most of the heat) and stated that the mother board had to be replaced. They had four hp laptops sharing the same motherboard Part number 441097-001 and processor type currently in the shop with the same problem.
If you have this machine I would eliminate all of the bloatware to reduce the demands upon the machine. If you have eliminated the possibility of virus problems (kapersky online scan is a good tool), get yourself a cooling pad with a fan and an external back-up drive.
This was the first laptop that I have ever owned, I have owned 8, that gave-up on its own. This was also the first and last hp.
Good luck
PS. I bought a XPS 1330 as a replacement machine.

Inappropriate?Unfortunately ...I think I have the same problem. I haven't backed anything up. Is it all lost?
-
Inappropriate?I think I also share this problem, how much does the motherboard cost?
-
I'm pretty sure it would cost more than it's worth. I talked to a guy at the Geek Squad tonight. I'm gonna get a new laptop...and I'll hold off on the touch screen until they get the kinks figured out. I must say though, that was my favorite part about it. -
Inappropriate?I also am having the SAME problem with the motherboard. I've had this laptop for about 17 months and spent 1200 dollars on it. HP will not give me any assistance in replacing it. It's ridiculous. They just want me to give them 400 bucks to put TOWARDS fixing it. YA RIGHT! I will never buy an HP product again. Anyone with this problem should call them and tell them! I know a lot of people are having this problem with theirs. Let them know about it!
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Same problems. Bad design. HP sucks. Another $1200.00 doorstop. Class-action anyone?
I’m Pissed off

Inappropriate?I had the same problem on March 27, 2009. Screen went white. After shutting down and restarting, screen is black. Unit is a tx1305us.

Inappropriate?I may have a solution. Same problem: a TX1305, screen going black, no way of pulling up anything (although there was no damage to the hard drive, which could be removed so that all files could be put on a disc for use in other units). I sent it to Florida Motherboard Specialists in Miami, which operates thru Ebay, on April 13. A week later they said it was fixed. The charge, $170, including return shipping. According to UPS, it's due to arrive on Thursday, the 23rd. I expect it to be in working order. Their email is mobospecialist@bellsouth.net

Hi, have yo got your laptop back? is it working well now? Because i got the same problem with my HP Pav TX1000 , they say it can be the motherboard. -
Inappropriate?i really hope they can fix you motherboard! Can't wait to hear your good news John!

Inappropriate? Here, here!! Thanks for class action law suit link! I hope justice is serve and HP really gets it!! I too will never trust HP again!!
-
I have the same problem with my HP Pavilion tx 1000 blacking out. is there really a class action lawsuit link? I'm game. -
Could you post the class action suit link again. My HP Pavillion tx1000 screen went black, too. -
Inappropriate?Maria... My HP tx1305us arrived today from Motherboard Specialists in Miami after it failed in the now customary manner on March 27, 15 months after purchase. HP was no help. But the repair service in Miami appears to have fully restored it to all functions for the reasonable cost of $170 including return shipping via UPS. Again, their email is: mobospecialist@bellsouth.net

Inappropriate?I may have a solution. Get a towell, cover your laptop. Put the laptop on the bag. turn on for 45 minutes.(You have to turn on, then put the towell) You need to overheating your HP Again. Then turn off the hp a let your HP to get cool. Then turn on your hp. That work for me. Sorry my english. Other option is to instal a gely to the envidea video chip. My email is steventorofielhawer@homail.com that work
-
thanks for this. your solution works on my laptop as well... :) -
THANK YOU! Worked like a charm. I thought I had lost everything. -
My boyfriend was skeptical, but it worked to get the screen on, but after a minute the computer has locked up, any suggestions on that? -
This worked for me. I was really frustrated that an one year old laptop died like that. You saved me some serious money with the towel trick. I had a 3 hour drive back home from the client site. Turned my laptop on with just the battery hooked up. Wrapped it in a towel and put it in my bag. After three hours when I took it out, it was hot... really hot (almost burned my fingers the first time I picked it). Turned it off and turned it back on and it worked :)
Thanks Steven.

Inappropriate?I have an HP tx1000 that is doing the SAME thing! We NEED to do something about this! Class Action lawsuit sounds like a plan to me.
I’m ANGRY!
-
Inappropriate?Hi guys, same thing, HP sucks...better get acer, cheaper...anyway..there is a solution of course temporary, but it looks like it works, try you start your lap, if you get the black screan, try to run it, or turn it on and off until the batter will die, then connect it to power and turn on it should work. Anyway, if there will be a class action, count me in...good luck!
I’m pissed offff

when you run the lap try to keep your cd drive open, when you don`t use it.... -

Inappropriate?Hello Guys!
I join to your company, I got same problem with my HP tx1000. the screen going black, it is motherboard. I bought it only 5,5 months ago!!! That's ridiculous. No HP anymore, NEVER!!!!
Class Action lawsuit sounds like a plan to me too!!! -
Inappropriate?Same issue as the rest...no wireless and now a black screen. Brought last in January and as soon as 12 month/1yr warranty expired, the wireless stop working and yesterday the screen is black. I call HP yet again and to no avail, they want me to pay $90 just to diagnose the problem when it appears they already know the problem. I'm all for a Lawsuit....sign me up! I have files on my laptop I need.
I’m piss and sooo frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Got my TX1000 in Jan 09. I brought my laptopl into shop 2 times in 6 months (had my monitor and motherboard changed respectively). My laptop was scrached by HP service people in multiple places, then wireless card stopped working just after warrenty expired, stopped using the laptop for about 4 months but started again in May.
In June screen goes black on its own and also turns off on its own even though I am only typing documents and surfing web in a air conditioned environment on a glass table with nothing obstructing the vents.
I will never again recommend HP to other people and my family and I will never buy HP products again. Good job HP.
I’m Very disappointed and frustrated
-
Inappropriate? My HP DV2000 battery also has this problem, I open the power management system , I change the LCD save mode to still on mode. But it cant help. so I change a DVI wires. Now it work fine. But sometimes happened.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Hey, I'm from Brazil. I had the same problem. Then I read on the internet and tried by myself, and it has been working since last Saturday. I overheated the laptop with a hair dryer and started to turn it on and turn it off until it worked. Then, to try avoiding new surprises I changed vista to windows 7. Until now I'm very happy with the results.
Before changing vista to windows 7, every time I had the problem of black screen resolved, it returned between some hours and a week. I hope this time might be different.
Good Luck
I’m excited

Inappropriate? It was my experience that though the screen went black and the computer was unresponsive, the hard disc info was undistrubed. I had a friend remove the hard disc and transfer the files to CD, which I cold use on another machine. I subsequently had the HP unit repaired for abouty $170 at a Florida service that specializes in motherboard. I gave more detailed information on this in earlier postings.
cheers... John McDonough -

Inappropriate?Ughh...HPtx1000 with the same problem. Not my only HORRIBLE experience with HP. I will try to overheat it and see what happens. Let me know if anyone hears of a class action suit. Meanwhile I and hopefully friends and family will boycott HP and their joke of customer service!!
-
Overheating it works! I haven't been able to use my tx1000 in over a month bc it wouldn't turn on. I was about to throw it out and buy a new one and then I read about overheating it! I used a hairdryer though...just blow the hairdryer on the corner where the fan is for about 2 or 3 minutes and then presto!! I am so happy! -
I left mine with the bottom in direct sun light for an hour.. it TURNED ON!!! YAY!!! How can we prevent this from happening? -
My HPtx1000 did the same thing. I wrote the CEO of HP. Please write HP and maybe they'll do a recall. The towell or blow dryer trick works for awhile but it's not a permanent fix. -
Inappropriate?I also sent a motherboard to Florida motherboard specialist, its been a month no emails and no phone calls. Be very careful
I’m pissed

Inappropriate? You bet man. I am also having the same problem. I have HP tablet tx2000z CTO notebook. It ran really good till it was under warranty. It had been just a month or two after warranty expired and I am having some issues.
Once in a while, my network card won't work. It won't show up even in hardware settings under network settings. It will show up my bluettoth card as well as my LAN card but no wireless card :(. So, I have to restart my laptop 8-9 times a day to just connect to wireless network. Somehow restarting it many times fixes its problem. And when wireless card is working, I can magically see my Broadcom card under wireless network. That's so waste of time to restart laptop 10-20 times to make wireless card working. ha ha ha.
To resolve this issue I first restarted my laptop to see if this fixes the issue. But no luck.
Then I reinstalled my Broadcom wireless card drivers, no luck.
I updated my bios to the latest version, no luck still.
I installed Windows Vista again, no luck.
No matter what I do, wireless card sometimes work and sometimes doesn't. Can anyone here help me out? Please.......
I know that I did a mistake buying an HP laptop, but what can I do now? I own a small business, I have like 8 laptops and all are from HP. But I think I will go with another laptop provider in future. This is really unprofessional behavior from HP. -
Inappropriate?Just read the following conversation and then you will realize that people who are trouble shooting our problem from HP tech support are not that smart after all.
I told Kevin so many times that my router and modem is fine such that I can access the internet wirelessly from my other laptop. But he still insists to toubleshoot my modem. ha ha ha. waste of 2-3 hours.
Bhavin Gandhi : Wireless card suddenly stopped working. Once in a while it works perfectly without doing anything.
[An agent will be with you shortly.]
[You are now chatting with Kevin Siebel .]
Bhavin Gandhi : hey Kevin!
Bhavin Gandhi : How are you?
Kevin Siebel : Welcome to HP Total Care for notebook support. My name is Kevin. Please give me a few moments while I review your issue description.
Note: For security reason, PLEASE DO NOT SEND Credit Card information on Chat.
Kevin Siebel : Hi Bhavin, how are you doing?
Kevin Siebel : Fine thank you.
Bhavin Gandhi : I am fine
Bhavin Gandhi : I am having problems with my wireless card from last few days
Bhavin Gandhi : 15 days to be more precise
Kevin Siebel : You are facing wireless issue with your notebook?
Bhavin Gandhi : and I was wondering if you can help me out with the same
Bhavin Gandhi : yeah!
Kevin Siebel : Have you taken any steps to resolve the issue?
Bhavin Gandhi : yeah!
Bhavin Gandhi : I have installed Broadcom (my wireless card) drivers again
Bhavin Gandhi : I also restarted my laptop 3-4 times
Bhavin Gandhi : I uninstalled the drivers and let it re-install
Bhavin Gandhi : but what happens is this.........
Kevin Siebel : Bhavin, tell me who is your internet service provider?
Bhavin Gandhi : Sometimes when I restart......it will magically connect to the wireless network and shows Wireless card in the Device settings option
Bhavin Gandhi : My internet service provide is ATT
Bhavin Gandhi : but its not a problem
Bhavin Gandhi : as my other laptop connects to the network just fine
Kevin Siebel : Bhavin, tell me who is your internet service provider?
Bhavin Gandhi : Are you a human?
Bhavin Gandhi : I told you once........my network service provider is ATT
Bhavin Gandhi : hello!
Bhavin Gandhi : Hello!
Bhavin Gandhi : Are you there?
Kevin Siebel : Yes I am there.
Kevin Siebel : I am human being as you are.
Bhavin Gandhi : Well, then why didn't you read the above sentence I wonder
Kevin Siebel : I was reading the steps you have performed.
Bhavin Gandhi : yeah!
Bhavin Gandhi : that steps says that my wireless provide is ATT
Kevin Siebel : Bhavin, have you contact your internet service provider is there any outage in your area.
Bhavin Gandhi : Yeah!
Bhavin Gandhi : ANd there is no outage
Bhavin Gandhi : don't you get it?
Bhavin Gandhi : My other laptops are working under the same network
Kevin Siebel : What they are saying.
Bhavin Gandhi : didn't you read?
Bhavin Gandhi : Hello
Bhavin Gandhi : Hello!
Bhavin Gandhi : ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Bhavin Gandhi : Kevin Siebel : Bhavin, have you contact your internet service provider is there any outage in your area.
Bhavin Gandhi : ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Bhavin Gandhi : Now you can read above comments I guess
Kevin Siebel : Bhavin Gandhi, you have dial up connection or DSL connection.
Bhavin Gandhi : DSL
Kevin Siebel : Thank you.
Kevin Siebel : Bhavin Gandhi, tell me the light status on the moderm.
Bhavin Gandhi : Dude!
Bhavin Gandhi : Are you human?
Bhavin Gandhi : Are you even listening to me?
Kevin Siebel : Yes.
Bhavin Gandhi : is that an automated response or what?
Bhavin Gandhi : How many times should I tell you that other Laptop in THE SAME NETWORK (wireless network) works fine
Kevin Siebel : Yes Bhavin I have just ask you the light status why you are asking like are you human?
Bhavin Gandhi : just to confirm
Bhavin Gandhi : as if you are an automated response then I would not like to waste my time here
Kevin Siebel : Bhavin, I am asking you about moderm light status.
Kevin Siebel : Not your notebook.
Bhavin Gandhi : Yeah! modem lights are ON
Kevin Siebel : Bhavin, give me the light status like ethernet light green and so on.
Kevin Siebel : This is very important step.
Bhavin Gandhi : ok
Bhavin Gandhi : one min
Kevin Siebel : Bhavin, I understand the concern.
Kevin Siebel : Sure I am there for you.
Bhavin Gandhi : lights are green
Bhavin Gandhi : and 2 lights are blinking
Kevin Siebel : Bhavin, which 2 lights are blinking.
Bhavin Gandhi : Power is stable and wireless is blinking
Kevin Siebel : Give me the name on the 2 light's which are blinking.
Kevin Siebel : What about the 2nd light which is blinking.
Kevin Siebel : Please reply.
Bhavin Gandhi : I thought other light is blinking
Bhavin Gandhi : but can't see now
Bhavin Gandhi : that's why I was keeping you on hold
Bhavin Gandhi : but well.........wireless light is the only one blinking at this time
Kevin Siebel : Bhavin how many light are there in the moderm.
Bhavin Gandhi : 3
Kevin Siebel : Bhavin, would you please name the 3rd one.
Bhavin Gandhi : power
Bhavin Gandhi : link
Bhavin Gandhi : and ready
Bhavin Gandhi : and there is a wireless
Bhavin Gandhi : :)
Kevin Siebel : 1st is power light that is green.
Bhavin Gandhi : yes
Kevin Siebel : Please have patience so we both should be on same level.
Bhavin Gandhi : just curious
Bhavin Gandhi : do you have a Manager?
Kevin Siebel : Wireless light is blinking.
Bhavin Gandhi : whom I can talk to?
Bhavin Gandhi : hmmm?
Kevin Siebel : Yes, I have however if you give me time I am about to resolve the issue.
Bhavin Gandhi : You can't as you are not understanding the issue itself
Bhavin Gandhi : I have worked in IT and I know that my modem is working
Kevin Siebel : Bhavin, I understand the issue. -
Inappropriate?I resolved the black screen issue by starting and wrapping a towel around it for 10 minutes.. I'm not sure whether its permenant or not.. But, my wireless card of HP Pavilion TX1000 is still not working.. HP SUCKS !!! Please tell me how to turn orange light to blue ????
I’m frustrated

My screen went out as well. The towel trick worked for me too. My HP laptop wireless has been out for months. I use a USB 802.11 dongle to access the internet. Doesn't look pretty, but ti works. Thanks again for the towel idea. at least i can use my laptop. -

Inappropriate? The towel trick worked for me. Thanks Steven. I had a 3 hour drive. So even though I didn't believe it'll work... Still tried it. After I got back home, the computer was very hot (towel was warm). Turned it off and turned it back on. It worked!!!! Thank you for this post.
I’m thankful for this post

Inappropriate?Towel trick worked for me...problem is, I have to continue to do it as my HP goes to a black screen everyday!!
1) Is it harmful to do this everyday?
2) Is there anything that can happen so it occurs less often?
3) Let me know if anyone hears about a class action suit on this!
Thanks!!! -
My tx1000 has the same problem. The screen when black 13 months after I bought it. Let me know about the class action suit also. HP should do a recall and fix this problem! I have to connect an external monitor to my laptop! So that means I really don't have a "laptop". -
I ran this mess by a class-action lawyer group in Canada a year ago. They weren't interested. It seems Canada is too small to bother with. This problem is international, and as far as I know affects pretty much every tx1000 user not living in an unheated igloo sooner or later. I don't know what else to do. Anybody else tried? -
Steve, I read your idea about sending letters to HP and the national broadcasting companies. You seem to be "on the ball", so I nominate you as our spokesperson! How about you compose a letter, and we'll add our names to it. I think some of the people that got a lousy laptop will have trouble putting any correspondence together because of a language barrier. Is there anyway to collect the email addresses of all the people who have complained and send them each an email to sign and add comments to? I just don't know. Just looking for a united effort. -
Just to let you know. . .I wrote to the CEO of HP and they had a case agent call me. I told him how I felt and that there were many others with the same problem. He told me that "HP was unaware of such problems" and offered to fix it for $200 which was a special offer just to me. I find it very hard to believe they are unaware of such problems!! I'm not taking the offer. You all write the CEO and see if you get the same response. -
Inappropriate?August 10th, almost 2 years with this TX1000. Same issue.
Tried the blow dryer attempt...now it won't turn on..quickly see the lights turn on..then immediately off. Had a high power blow dryer on it. Maybe will let it cool down before trying again.
Its now long over due...I'm going the way of the Mac. -

Inappropriate?HP disgusts me! I have the same problem! I called and they got nasty with me... this happened once before to me, fortunately the first time I had a warranty on it and they repaired it. I have had the computer for 18 months and now it went kaput. They told me the series we are all complaining about is "the best HP series there is with NO defect"...come on now! There IS a defect... don't tell me we all happened to break our computers on our own AND happen to all have the same problem... They fail to acknowledge that it is a problem which REALLY annoys the heck out of me... I took good care of my laptop, never dropped it or anything, and this isn't something that I nor any of you guys did... it is HP's fault. I recommend reporting them to the Better Business Bureau... (can be done online!) maybe if we all do it HP will come to their senses and acknowledge the issue. HP should not get OUR hard earned money for a product that FAILS all of our standards...!

After hours of searching what was wrong, ive come to a conclusion its a design flaw, heres a permanent fix
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctHTF3...
its the GPU unit overheating and falling out of place. if you reheat it (the towel) method doesnt get the computer hot enough and it may not put it back in place permanently. A little more risky method is the one described in the youtube video. at this point i feel hp should recognize the design flaw and recall the tx1000 and other models. Further to deassemble the laptop and get the mother board out heres a PDF file http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/...
When i did the "youtube" method only thing i screwed up is i took out so many screws couldnt remember where each one went back....at the end of the day everything worked fine....its been 3 weeks so far.
Feel free to ask me questions at markchong@gmail.com -
Inappropriate?i had my tx1000 got back to work by doing what jason shay did. thanks to him and his video guide. . Did the on and off switch trick before which worked for a while but eventually it just completely went black.i gave up on this 4 months ago and just bought a dell( no more hp..never) instead. then 2 days ago my girlfriend's tx1000 had that problem also, but hers' went black screen completely, i mean the on and off trick didnt work, towel trick wont work nad we even tried the blow dryer trick and still didint work which made me decide to take mine apart and do the penny trick for permanent fix. ill try to repair my girlfriend's tablet tonight since i got all the stuff i need it would be faster and easier...
STILL...HP SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE THIS DESIGN FLAW...
also, when i went to best buy to get my dell, i learned that amd are prone to overheating becuase they take a lot of power, so i made sure i got a pentium...AGAIN NO MORE HP NOR AMD -

That inspired me because I had the same problem last week and HP support center wants to charge me 399$ to ship the comp back to fix and only guarranty for 3 mos after that so I am just thinking about to save $ to buy Netbook and then I read this forum, this morning I wrap my TX1320US with a plastic bag, turn comp upside down so the CPU as shown on Youtube can sit up right, turn switch it on, put a newspaper on to cover it for more heat, let it runs for 3 hrs. Then come back to unwrap and turn it off, now is too hot, I also beat it a few times to make sure that CPU is going
back to its mounting holes or whatever it is in my assumption, take the battery out, disconnect the AC/DC pwr, take the DVD tray out, turn sw on for 30 seconds to reset, run the electrical fan to cool the comp on its upside down for 1 hr.
Now put all things back in and turn this "Tx monster" on ...... >>-> It works, <-><< it boots up like a champ. I am in California so today is about 100 degree, the comp seems get hot too quickly, I think I have to buy a laptop cooling pad from now on.
Thanks to all who contributed for this "Tx1000 series no-boot" problem and remember to download this service manual http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/... , it's very very handy.
Definitely HP knew this problem and they may do the same fix like all of us here and charges for 399 bucks ?
Good grief !

Inappropriate?I also have a tx1000. My problem is when I connect an external monitor(Dell 2309W) it works but randomly the screen(of the external monitor) goes black and I cannot do any thing about it. I have tried all different possible solutions including reinstalling NVIDIA drivers, reversing the BIOS and every other trick but it didn't work. I talked to the customer service for more than an hour but he couldn't fix it. Is there any way I make sure it is a hardware problem or software one? Do you think there can be any solution for it?
-
I also have a tx1000. One month beyond the warranty 's end, the screen went black. Sometimes the screen will blink or stay on for a few minutes, then it goes black. I have to use an external monitor which means that I don't have a "laptop". That's crummy. -
Just to let you know. . .I wrote to the CEO of HP and they had a case agent call me. -
Inappropriate?I think that may be the cable is not well shielded and lost data transmit through it, or to reset the monitor resolution to match or less than the external monitor resolution.
-
Inappropriate?i also have this problem. my research on google lead me to believe this problem is caused by the defective NVIDIA chipset that was used in several models of HP notebooks. there is no known permanent fix. shipping it back to HP will only give me a replacement chip that has the same defect and in 2 months i will start to see the same problems with display, video, wireless internet, and eventually problems powering up the notebook. don't buy HP
mr never buy HP again
urging everyone not to buy HP ever again
I’m urging everyone not to buy HP ever again

Inappropriate?Cable can't be the problem of my laptop. I tried different ones and no fix. The resolution of my laptop monitor is less than the external too.
I haven't found any problem either. I think it's a bug in their system design.
I am going to open the back of my laptop and see if there is any possible lose connection that heat can fix it. However I don't think it will help. -
Inappropriate?Hi,
Yesterday, I tried to connect to the external Flat panel/TV and I can see the ext-TV blanks out with no Data On/Off few times, I just let it hooked and for a while it stable with both ext-TV + Laptop are on display. But ...... after I turn laptop off, it has the same problem "No-Boot" again, here is my post from other forum I can fwd to here, read below:
Fwd:
After more than a week, I try to turn it on and Boot failed again, I re-wrap it and let it run for 2 hours then turn it off, cool it, turn it on and it boots again. This makes me to think (?), so I decided to unassemble the laptop, so far I can see HP had already put the heat spacer and green gel on top of AMD-CPU and the NVIDIA chip, what I do to bend those four extended leaf-spring to create more contact presure that may help to tranfer heat to the copper heat sink and vacuum dust sticks on the fan's fins plus all around.
Put things back together is a kind of confused if you did not write notes for what scews set to be for what parts, where that would be. Need to take times to read Service Maunual and do not hurry so you won't break parts etc ...
See pix: http://www.flickr.com/photos/42993921...
Addition info:
Tx1320US "No-Boot" problem with possible over heat of CPU or NVIDIA chip set or exhaust fan or copper and black heat sinks fins are clogged with super fine dusts that need to be vacuumed and brush them out for heat air flows, I also vacuum the mother board surface of both sides particularly to the areas had been filled with fabric dusts. That's all I do and I do bending up of four extend leaf-spring to creat more contact pressue on top of AMD-CPU for better heat transfer possible.

Inappropriate?Had a TX1320, wifi issues after 6 months, dead (motherboard overheat, loose GPU) after 15 ms.
A TX2110 dead with the GPU after 14 ms.
Outrageous!!!

Inappropriate?HP = "Howling Pain"
I think the problem for Over-Heat is the AMD-CPU, not the NVIDIA chip, readers can see in this pic, the decal label on top of AMD-CPU was hot burn that changes the color wht to brn and dried out. Right side next of it is the NVIDIA chip, its decal is OK , still wht color http://www.flickr.com/photos/42993921...
After uncrews those mounting screws, I flip the fan assembly over to the left, now I can see a big thumb's finger print on the copper thermal plate of an assembler or technician who's doing on this board withour wearing latex glove. http://www.flickr.com/photos/42993921...
Now my laptop is booting fine so far, but ...... yes, it starts to turn off itslef unexpectedly and randomly for no reason after 10 or 30 minutes, may be it's still overheated or is their a thermal sensor send a wrong signal, or I did set screen saver/AC power not to sleep nor do hibernation but this laptop is still turn off itself ? Hmmmm . The thermal fan is working and blowing fine, the air is not too hot yet ?. Or three weeks ago I did upgrade the Vista SP-2 that can cause the problem since ? Hmmmm. All are questionables and possible but have no answer after days of searching internet.
I believe the CPU is the main cause for every computer, no matter which brands, that's why buyers can buy extra cooling CPU fan to fix this over heating problem. For this laptop with tight space, there is no room to add an extra CPU fan or what ever.
Pain ?, isn't it ? If HP can sell the brand new mother board for 80 or up to 125 bucks or so, that'll be happy price for customer to try out by them self. Unfortunately, in the HP web says it costs around $350 for this mboard and customer needs to return the old mboard for minus (-) $100, so final cost will be $250. What I suspect that old returned mboard will be reused by HP for the next victim and only guarranty for 3 months from HP's service.
In the picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/42993921... we can see the "Lock " button right next to the left's edge of AMD Turon CPU so with the same mboard, HP uses it for many Tx plus other laptop models, just put a difference AMD CPU speed to the CPU's socket and lock the CPU pins.
No wonder why the over heat problem is still remain ? HP = "Howling Pain" :)

Inappropriate? So far my Tx1329US is still running fine except a kind of overheatv? I guessed.
What I used is SpeedFan utility free ware http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php
to test the temperature of CPU and mboard, the CPU (GPU?) is 70C degree just for after boot it up, let it run by itself for 10' then it shows 85C and execute a few applications to run on screen that will be up to 95C degree which is hot.
This Speefan uti can detect my thermal sensor which is GeForce (NVIDIA) so what I think this can be the NVDIA chip because the test shows "GPU", not CPU.
Download this Speedfan test and run it, let readers know what do you think ?
Have any experts in here ? I need your opinions. Thanks. -
The main problem in this Model is that the Graphics proccessor is too close to the CPU in the Motherboard so the heat on the CPU heats also the GPU.This is a design mistake, and aproblem also with tha NVIDIA Chip. The new models are using AT RAdeon Instead. Then do some research since there is a worldwide class action against HP for this model. Maybe we win new Laptops. -
Inappropriate? My TX 1000 used to shut down all the time, I think because of overheating (I also ran a monitoring tool and found the cpu to be really hot 85C+). What I have done is is use the power settings to turn the CPU down to maximum 60%-70% or so. Also I prop the back of the laptop up on something, or leave the cpu corner hanging over the edge of the desk, so that there is more airflow. Not ideal but rarely overheats and shuts down now. (Can't remember last time it did). I still have it under warranty so I will see what HP says some time, when I have everything off it that I need.

Inappropriate?I'm from Brazil.
Same gpu problem.
I used to buy lots of things from HP, now, nevermore...
I’m frustrated

This is to everyone who owns a TX Series notebook with the GPU issue.
HP is not going to do a recall of this model unless we can generate negative publicity about the matter. I know this may seem somewhat futile, but i urge everyone who has issues with this model to do the following:
1. Write a letter to HP about this issue, and send some forum postings of other customers having the same issue along with the letter. Request that HP do a recall of the entire TX series. They may offer to fix your laptop, but please turn them down as request that they do a recall of the entire TX series.
2. The most important part. Send a copy of your letter to each of the major television network, asking that their investigative team take a look at this issue. Please send your letter to the major networks to stations located in the New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. I would be great if everyone sent a letter to all the major networks in all three cities.
3. This ties in to step 2. Send all letters within a 15 to 21 day period. If we can get 500 letters to one network, i am certain that this story would make the news, and shed enough negative light on HP that they may be forced to do a recall.
4. Copy this post to every Forum that you know has posts about this issue. I will take it upon myself to copy this to as many posts as i can, but it does not hurt to have duplicates.
5. PLEASE send all letters between November 1, 2009 and November 21, 2009. -

I have the same problem, the system does not shutdown yet but im sure it will occur soon. The wireless has stopped working and i assume that it is due to the overheating. The Wireless card is fine but there is something wrong with the motherboard.
Ill write a letter to HP asking for a recall.

Inappropriate?I was able to get my TX 1000 to boot using the following logic:
Problem: GPU over heating the solder and other components. Solution: I decided to run the computer upside down with the bottom of the laptop facing upwards. I ran it this way for a week in "full power" mode while using the external keyboard+mouse+monitor. Unit was left on day and night. Now it might take one additional power cycle to get it going. Also, it response well to having the power source connected. I realize this is not the real fix but I'm able to use it at work every day now. -
Inappropriate? From England, bought the TX1000 just over a year ago, now it can't see the wireless card. Only used on the odd occasion as I normally use my Acer laptop or my trusty old desktop.
it would seem to be a genuine fault installed into the machines by HP reading all the problems on this page from all different people all over the world.
Also very strange that they ALL seem to fail just as they go out of warranty.
HP can take all their products and shove them where the sun doesn't shine!!!
I’m absolutley livid

Inappropriate?I also have a tx1000 and the screen just went black the other day...computer lights show it is working but the screen is dead...I was told it is most likely the video card on the motherboard...too expensive to fix! I will try the towel trick later but please let me know of any class action lawsuits!!!
I’m not happy and can't afford a new computer
-
Inappropriate?I have same problem. The laptop doesn'y boot. Towel trick works but it is not permanent solution. HP should come with something. I am with all of you for law suit. Also, my WiFi wireless network adaptor is disappered suddenly so if someone has any temp or permanent solution, please let me know. My laptop is tx2110
thx for all postiings and sharing info -
Inappropriate?I have been having the same issues with my tx2110 for the past 7 months. I believe HP deliberately did this! It only happens after your warranty expires. First my wireless card then the sound card then the screen resolution and now the black screen. HP customer service do not have a clue and that's why it takes so long when you chat with them, they are reading to guess what they should tell you next. Here is what I sent them in a complaint form:
When did you purchase your product? : May2008
Product HP Pavilion tx2110us Entertainment Notebook PC
Select a problem area: other
What is your serial number (SN): CNF8114DPQ
What is your operating system?: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32
What type and brand of CD/DVD media do you use? nvidia
Was the CD/DVD writer drive built into the computer when you purchased it? Yes
Problem Description: I want to start by saying that I have always recommended HP. But for the past year, I have been extremely disappointed by your lack of acknowledgement and care for customer issues. You have shown absolutely no care for the fact that so many of us have spent over $1200 for a state of the art laptop that has been nothing else but a nightmare. It started up with the WI-FI not working. I spent over 10 hours with different techs and no result. Only suggestion was, get a new WLAN card. Then my sound card started acting up. Again contacted HP, result download BIOS and still I have to manually adjust my sound. Then the F8 key would not work to brighten my screen. Now it won't boot. It's on, but black screen. I have to turn it on and off many times before it works. Contacted HP and once again you are telling me that it is my problem only and I need a new motherboard.
Please provide previous troubleshooting steps, or information that can help HP assist you.: I was not angry until I was told by HP that no one else has complained about this issue. But low and behold: http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/f... and http://getsatisfaction.com/hp/topics/.... SO YOU KNOW ABOUT IT AND YOU DON'T WANT TO HELP. IF YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT YOUR CUSTOMERS AND WISH TO REMAIN IN BUSINESS, YOU SHOULD REALLY START HELPING US. A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IS IN THE WORKS.
Has anything changed since the unit functioned properly (installation of SW, settings, cabling, etc.): N/A
