HP Pavillion tx1120 - dead 8wks out of warranty - HP no help!
Last year I bought a Pavillion Tx1120. It ran hot as everyone else has posted and the battery life sucked because the fan was constantly on. The only way to get the machine to run cooler was to cripple it in power saver mode...
My machine has died 8 wks out of warranty - I paid $1400 for it. Probably power or bios.
HP want $300 + Tax for to repair the machine and will only give a 3 month warranty on the repair.
They were not interested in doing anything to keep my custom when I asked a supervisor on their 'Total Care' chat. This is not what I expect from HP. You guys were great once upon a time. I could rely on your products. I even used to recommend them - at least four others have bought HP laptops because I told them to in the last year. (HP - I can prove this!)
HP has lost my custom - I picked up a new Toshiba for $699 - it runs cooler and just works better. I don't have to cripple it.
So for the sake of a $300 repair - I won't buy HP again and I won't be recommending them - in fact I'll be actively discouraging people to buy HP. That is unless HP amaze me and change the ending of this story by providing real customer service beyond the provision they are obliged to make.

Inappropriate? The whole HP tx series of notebooks seem to be horrible. I have had a tx1000 notebook for nearly 1.5 years and have had to send it in for repair TWICE. The first time was the morning my final paper was due for an English Lit. class (thank God for back-up) and the whole motherboard just failed. The second time was this past June and it was the motherboard again. Each time the service was severely lacking and in the end I only got it resolved by searching the internet and finding the cell phone number of someone high ranking in HP.
I’m not at all surprised

Inappropriate?Mine had the wireless go out at 14 months and the motherboard died at 22 months. I too find it hard to believe HP will not stand behind their products better. I will be telling at my clients and friends to stay away from HP products. Who can afford to pay $1500 for a laptop that last less than 2 years?

Inappropriate?i also have this problem. my research on google lead me to believe this problem is caused by the defective NVIDIA chipset that was used in several models of HP notebooks. there is no known permanent fix. shipping it back to HP will only give me a replacement chip that has the same defect and in 2 months i will start to see the same problems with display, video, wireless internet, and eventually problems powering up the notebook. don't buy HP
mr never buy HP again

Inappropriate?Welcome to the HP experience. I am not sure what is going on at HP? HP used to produce reliable products.
We have two problems, one much like yours. Have an HP all-in-one that recently quit under warranty. HP fairly quickly sent us a 'refurbed' unit. Good deal, until it failed to work out of the box! Issue still not resolved.
Other problem is with the laptop dv6700 I had built by HP on their web site ($1200) for use by my granddaughter. Long story short, after months of frustration over the phone with HP techs troubleshooting this thing, it finally went to dark screen mode and will not boot beyond that - though the mouse still works, if you like watching the arrow cursor move. A self-inflicted problem occurred when my grandkid's other granddad took the machine home to try to get it to boot up. By the time he discovered it was not going to work and returned the thing, it was now 19 days out of warranty.
Without going into further conversations with HP tech and managers, I have since mailed Mr. Hurd a personal letter describing this issue. HP, at least, received that letter on October 7, 2009; I have yet to receive as much as a courtesy reply.
My understanding is that HP had/has problems with their dv model laptops. Failing any resolution, I am looking for others in similar situations to pursue a possible class action lawsuit.
I’m thinking HP is traveling the Circuit City road
