My mousepad is not working

In a brand new HP pavilion DV3500 my mousepad is not working. This is very frustrating since this is a new laptop. I've search in vista's control panel to see if something is disabled, but with no luck. Also the activation button for the mousepad is turned on. So i believe is a) a driver issue (i've googled it but i havent found anything) or b) is a hardware issue.

What should i be testing?
