    Why did you join HubDub?

I joined because I had surgery on my leg and while I was recovering I came upon a news article about HubDub and instantly fell in love!

Strike Last reply on May 16, 2008 08:07.

Today, 3/14/08 is the last time i will be logging in for awhile because I am beginning an independent strike. Users such as crudsy and orlin have been growing their net worths at pretty much impossible rates. There is no possible way they can increase their net worth soo quickly given the time it takes to settle most bets. Clearly, they either both have several accounts? or maybe they are the same person? this way they can place bets back and forth to sway bets and give higher cash out values. This is completely unfair and ruins the system. I think there needs to be a monitoring of accounts from IP addresses. If there are multiple accounts under a certain IP address than the accounts need to be checked in order to see if the same questions are being bet on. If so, than penalties must be issued.

iPod Touch issues2 Last reply on May 15, 2008 22:13.

Two issues (one horribly crippling) on iPodbTouch:
on the screen to put money on a question and I choose to enter my own amount it recognizes the number one decimal place too small (so 1000 shows the payout 100 would have, etc)
Secondly the white sub-caragoties aren't on the blue bar, they are low.

Questions with no suspend date/time- Can we fix this? Last reply on May 11, 2008 22:09.

I am not sure if this topic has been raised or discussed much but I want to bring up the issue of questions with no suspend date. I believe all questions can and should have a reasonable suspend date PRIOR to the outcome being decided. I have come across alot of questions, especially in sports, with no suspend date when there is clearly a day/time when outcome of question is going to be settled. These questions should have a suspend day/time BEFORE outcome is determined and not doing so, in my opinion, is GAMING THE SYSTEM.
I really enjoy Hubdub, and not mad or upset by this issue in anyway. This is a topic I bring up to try and IMPROVE Hubdub.
    In my opinion:
1)All questions should have reasonable suspend date/time.
2)Admins reserve right to Add and/or Change suspend date/time using thier discretion.
3)Any question flagged for no suspend date/time or unreasonable suspend date/time
Admins reserve right to Add and/or Change suspend date/time using thier discretion.

The Admins do a great job monitoring and keeping the site going and thier discretion in adding suspend date/time is more than fair especially when creator of question doesnt add one.
Once again, I am only bringing up this topic to make Hubdub better. If anyone else has an opinion on this topic please voice it. All ideas welcome.

New Leaderboard Idea? (Predictions Percentages) Last reply on May 10, 2008 18:44.

I've been thinking about this for a bit. Apologies, if it has been discussed previously. Didn't notice it if it has though. What about a leaderboard(s) based win/loss percentage(s) for successful market predictions?

I don't know if Hubdub has the capability (though I would think it would) to determine the number of predictions Hubdub members get correct versus the total number of market predictions they make. (e.g. I have made 100 predictions and got 60 correct, so would have a 60% result).

If a member cashes in on a question, then perhaps they would receive a partial credit percentage (e.g. 0.2%) depending upon how much, if any H$ they received (compared to the total they possibly could have received had they didn't cash in) after the market question has been settled. (e.g. If a member would have collected a max of 4k $H and cashed in receiving 2k, and after the question was settled, they were correct, then they would received 0.5%, from their cashing in.)

Could possibly have weekly, monthly, quarterly leaderboards based on win/loss, etc. but could also divide it up into groups of members, based on total number of predictions.

    For example....

    Less than 100 Predictions
    101 to 200 Predictions
    201 to 300 Predictions
    301 to 400 Predictions

    and so on.

Just an idea I thought I'd put out there for consideration, etc. I'm sure it could be improved upon too from the suggestions of others.

    Thanks,
    Bob

How do we deal with markets with "highly" subjective language? Last reply on May 10, 2008 18:08.

Recently some markets (especially in the political arena) have been found using pretty blatant subjective language. Here's and example:

    http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/Will_t...

The above market had stated "Will the Traitor Carter meet with Hamas officials in Syria by the end of April 2008?" I edited the market to say "Will Jimmy Carter meet with Hamas officials, in Syria, by the end of April, 2008?"

This was done to remove the contentious and subjective language in the market. "Traitor Carter" is subjective and its inclusion would only lead to unnecessary arguments between differing view points on the man, but not actually related to the market question.

So the rule amendment would be: "All questions must use objective language." So a market such as the "Traitor Carter" one would be formally disallowed because of it's subjective language.

How do people feel about this rule change? This is certainly a rule amendment we should discuss to work out all the kinks before we incorporate it into the rule book
