Brand New Leaderboards Live!
Every Monday morning a new week begins, and with it the opportunity to maximize your weekly % gain for that week. Do well and your success will be recorded historically for all to see.
The Quarterly gain and All time leaderboards are still there, but now you can view any page and jump right to yours easily. This will let you compete with those around you and clamber to the top one position at a time.
Of course, all are available for the whole site or for just you and your friends.
If you're a dedicated Hubdubber but haven't made it to the top 20 yet now is your chance. Enjoy and good luck!
Tom

Inappropriate?Impressive! Really opens up the game.
But can we trust the results? The current leader in quarterly gain has a gain 2.5 times greater than their net worth, which suggests a tabulation problem. -
Inappropriate? Thanks. The problem I referred to above has been corrected.
I have a question though. I understand that the weekly gain overall is based on comparing the net worth on most recent Monday with the current net. But what does the weekly gain for individual categories actually compare. I assume it's comparing net weekly gain in the category against something. (Is it the amount wagered?)
Also, just out of interest, why are there minimum number of predictions to qualify for the various weekly gain leaderboards?
Thanks. -
Inappropriate?Right. (page recently updated):
- For both quarterly gains and weekly gains we gather together all predictions which were open at any point in the quarter/week
- For each of these we calculate an opening value, which is either the sale value of the prediction at the start of the week/quarter, or the amount wagered for new predictions
- We also calculate a closing value, which is either the current value (for open predictions in the current week/quarter), the sale value of the prediction at the end of the applicable quarter (for previous periods), or the close value (win value for wins or 0 for losses) where the prediction was settled in that quarter
- For the quarterly values we just total up the differences between these opening and closing values, and give you the result
- For the weekly values we total up the differences, and then divide this by the total of the opening values
- For the categories we just count predictions in that category.
- For the weekly game, if you do not have enough open predictions during the week, you do not qualify for inclusion in the leaderboards.
We would like to reflect the amount of the net worth invested in the weekly totals, in order to further reward people playing the game, and are thinking of either making the weekly boards gain/net worth, or something like if you don't invest x% of your net worth, you do not appear in the weekly boards (with x being 20% for the category boards and 40% for the others). We don't really want to do either of these until we have a scheme in place for people to move their excess wealth out of the game though... -
Inappropriate? The new leader boards are great! Good job Hubdub. Now there's a way for new users to get on the front page right away. And for average joes to get on the front page with a good week of investing.
I’m average, but not a joe.

Inappropriate?Hi Tom, great job and keep it up. Can i suggest me see more information on the leader board against a users name rather than their percentage gain. I would be interested in seeing
- Date first Registered
- Total Networth
- Last weeks position/if they are on the way up or down
- How much they waged
- Even were they made their gain
Just some ideas
Richard
I’m happy at 57 on the leaderboard
-
Inappropriate? It is, but the code which showed the update time on the website was broken. it's fixed now. thanks
-
Inappropriate?Well if a user isn't on a leaderboard now that is pretty sad, what are there 50 new leaderboards. I would like a leaderboard for people whose name start with the letter "D" and were born on Tuesday. I am sure as not to hurt anyone elses feelings, all letters and days of the week should be included.
I wish this amount of time and effort went into creating power users, negotiating settlement rules, clariifying questions, and addressing real concerns. Hubdub is starting to feel like Myspace or Facebook, I got plenty of social networking sites, I would like a news forecasting website. What is next music I can listen to, backgrounds, funny fonts, how about a clear set of rules, clear and concise questions, quicker settlement times, and getting rid of questions in which wager is more than 90% in one direction from the homepage.
