Delays between settlement requests and actual settlement
Because the admins don't work 24/7 (WHY NOT??) they can't immediately respond to settlement requests. Of course, people then continue to bet after the result is known driving the percentages up to 100%. There is the back voiding (which doesn't appear to be working?) but that doesn't help with the people who cash out their bets.
This isn't a new problem, but has been mentioned again in a couple threads lately:
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/Will_t...
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/Formul...
and relates to a couple others I have been following (as well as many, many others):
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/When_w...
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/How_mu...
This is a pretty crummy way to make money in my opinion and I'd like to brainstorm on how to alleviate this problem.
My idea was to auto-suspend a question when a settlement request comes in. Most of the time when there is a settlement request either 1) the question is actually ready to be settled and should be suspended or 2) the person misunderstood and the question needs clarification (and should be suspended during clarification). Of course users too trigger happy with a settlement request could suspend a market prematurely but to my mind that's better than leaving it open too long.
I guess if power users (once they exist) can suspend markets that may help too... other thoughts?

Inappropriate?i noticed that too, and i had similar problems in some of my markets.
but auto suspend could be abused to freeze a market
i am still thinking about what kind of advantage that would bring to the one causing it - i don't know that really - one thing is: it would be a way to sabotage markets or market creators.
this would be a problem especially in time frames just before regular suspension would occur or when markets have a really short period defined from creating until suspension. -
Inappropriate?I have addressed this concern with the admins and have suggested that power user be given ability to suspend (NOT SETTLE) a market so it may be reviewed. I feel that by giving power users the ability to suspend a market this will help, I also feel that a user who creates a question should have the ability to suspend that question. In the case a mistake is made, or market needs settled, this would be something they knew about since they wrote the question. I have also asked for admins to be given particular times of the day they are responsible for hubdub. In someway making sure the Hubdub was covered 24/7.

Inappropriate? We are looking into power user suspend along with the user question approval functionality. I don't think that is much additional work (don't tell Tom I said that!)

Inappropriate?Busted Nigel! Haha, hi everyone, our current solution for this is to have power users able to suspend questions on a settlement request if they want to, once the concept of a power user exists for question approval functionality. Both these items are very high on the list.
