Escalation: What color is this tie?
There has been a very active market on the color of the Chancellor's tie. Unfortunately, it looks to me to be purple which wasn't an option. Picture of the Chancellor in tie:

What do you think? If you agree that it is purple, should we go for the nearest (blue/navy or pink?) or void it? (let me know if you have a position in your comment)

Inappropriate?that is a pink tie. an ugly ugly pink tie.
-
Inappropriate? No one ever expects...a purple tie! This looks purple to me. Does 'none' indicate that he wore no tie or that it's 'none of the above'?

Inappropriate?I have $250 on blue/navy and $100 on red.
Purple is a general term used in English to describe a range of shades of color occurring between red and blue.
The tie is clearly purple, and purple is closer to blue, so settle as blue. Certainly not pink.

[Good links to see the tie]
I’m amused at the furore over a TIE
-
Inappropriate?I've got no $ on this one, but thought the market was enormously amusing, so I've been following it. Sorry to say, but me thinks its got to be a void. Purple is clearly not blue or red (or orange or sienna), although I understand rohan's frustration (so close!). Maybe we can try to be a little more inclusive for the next fashion question.
I’m loving this question and sorry it can't settle
-
Inappropriate? This Guardian blog refers to an 'episcopal purple tie': http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/news/2008...
I'm keen to to follow the above advice on this one. -
Inappropriate?I think it's void too. Purple isn't listed. If purple was listed, somebody would have chosen it and there would have been a definitive outcome. But there was no purple, and neither red nor blue is purple. So it's void - not an unreasonable conclusion to an otherwise very well worded question.
-
Inappropriate? This seems like a very simple "VOID".
-
Inappropriate?I bet on silver so I'd be better off if the question were voided, but I don't see how it can be. The tie is purple and since that wasn't a choice, we all lose. Would a bookie give back the money if a horse that no one bet on won the race?
The final option wasn't "none of the above" but "none." That suggests he would wear no tie. Anyone who wanted "none of the above" could have asked for it to be edited in as an option. Or they could have avoided the question. Or started a market "Will the Chancellor wear a purple tie?" -
Inappropriate?I *love it* ! A purple tie!!!
Did you notice the BBC link <http://www.bbc.co.uk/> -- the BBC site is (currently) all purple!
(I don't recall seeing the BBC with this colour scheme before!)
Anyway ... I have a hedged bet on "Blue/Navy" and "Red" -- so would win on "blue". -- But this isn't, IMNHO, blue ... it's purple! And, I'd 'vote' for a Void.
I’m wondering ... "what" does it *mean* ... that it's purple? Americans want to know!
-
Inappropriate?I think this should be settled based on printed material. I've looked at the linked photo on three different monitors and it's purple on two of them and blue on the other one.
Void works for me as well since Purple wasn't a choice and I invested in Red ... No Yellow ... Ahhhhhhhh ...
I’m a Monty Python fan!

Inappropriate? Thanks for all your input. Even though I am color blind this is the clearest void I have seen to date.
Now on to the Spitzer question... -
Inappropriate?Spitzer Category (or is it SubCategory?), you mean.
-
Inappropriate? It's definitely sub-something, but I'm not certain of what. I've got it! It's the "sub-slime" crisis! Perhaps the federal government should be providing tax rebates to johns who paid a lot for high-priced hookers 8^)
Mr. Clean indeed! -
Inappropriate?"sub-slime" crisis
That's great. Wish I'd said it.
(Don't worry, I will.) -
Inappropriate?subslime crisis, love it. I had it on blue but glad to see this is a clear void. was an interesting market and increased my li'l knowledge of fashion and how much it makes a statement.
I’m wearing under-roos that match.
