Give us some Hubdub love!
Howdy Hubdubbers,
We're currently working on some marketing material for Hubdub that will include quotes from users. We'd love to feature as many of you as possible, with pictures. The first place this will appear is in the redesigned tour that's launching soon on the site, but later we may (re)use pics and quotes elsewhere.
If you're keen to be featured, please send the following to rob [at] hubdub [dot] com.
1. A quote expressing your love for Hubdub! You could mention how fun it is, how much you use it, or how it impacts your life. Remember, the purpose of the quote is to get other potential users excited about using Hubdub. One or two sentences would be fine. You guys know the kind of thing I'm sure.
2. A photo of you, preferably a head shot, preferably bigger than 300 x 300 pixels. Just be yourself! Look happy :)
3. Your city, state/province/county and country
4. Your Hubdub username (we'll link to your profile wherever possible)
5. These sentences: "I give my permission for Hubdub Ltd to use my quote and the photo I have provided however they wish, copyright free. I do not wish to be paid for this use now or in the future".
Many thanks in advance to everyone who helps us out by sending in a quote and pic! Looking forward to seeing some of you.
Tom

Lucid I am surprised by your tone in the dialogue above.
I do not fully comprehend the workings of the internet and that is why I err on the side of caution when dealing with matters of privacy on-line. One need only refer to the skyrocketing statistics regarding identity theft to understand that it is not only celebrities who should be concerned about privacy issues.
When I first heard the concept of another site, 'facebook', I was astonished by how willing people were to share personal information openly online. Recently I read an article of the intrusive terms of the user-agreement of facebook and realized I had made the right choice by avoiding that site and others like it altogether. I realize millions of people disagree with me, and I am totally ok with that and wouldn't discourage anyone from using that site if they so desire.
You seem to feel indebted to the owners and operators of hubdub. I think you can put your mind at ease because they need us more than we need them. I hope to see them excel and succeed with what I think is a great concept being put into action. Any user who uses the comment boards tastefully and develops questions is doing more than is expected of them to help the administrators. What this site NEEDS is USERS. I think most USERS don't NEED hubdub
I appreciate the fine work the administrators have done as do you and I believe most if not all users do.
I have never completed a survey on-line regarding my detailed information as thorough as the hubdub survey. Over the last few months hubdub has provided me with the impression of trustworthiness, (call me naive) and due to my appreciation for the value I have for this site I chose to provide them with my very personal details. To suggest that anyone should feel obligated to provide them with these details is misleading. To suggest that we owe them for bandwidth is absurd.
If the administrators expressed that they felt the way you do regarding their entitlement to this information, I most surely would not have contributed.
I’m unconcerned

hm, sorry to interrupt the excitement, but I think "however they wish" goes too far in my eyes...
It's the shortest and easiest way to get a permission, I understand, and although I allege that HD has only honest motives, I won't ever give such a full permission without any restrictives. Sorry about that.

Inappropriate? Can we not get like $50 hubdub dollars for the use of our images and words, that would be kinda fun.
-
I do like the idea, but this is a game and to be compensated for every little thing seems to take away some of the fun......... Plus, don't you want to be a hubdub celeb and legend? ... Why not have your pic and name and like 1,000 people screaming your name and chasing you down the street? ......... Hey, I'm in man :-D -
Inappropriate?H$50? How about H$100K for each use, along with exclusive spokeswoman opportunities?
Hmmmm......
I’m pushing my luck......

Oooh, good point! -
thanks for whatever you were trying to say to me, lucid. It was very interesting to hear your point of view. Now I know, with whom I'm dealing. -
Butterflies flying around above a fresh green valley. The world is sooo beautiful ... all people hugging each others sharing their joints ... free love all around .... and than - all of a sudden - the beta stage is over and the site gets run by those of'm being condemnable capitalists, putting ads all over the once so beautiful and peaceful blue/light gray design of what we once called noble and selfless hubdub. -
What in the world dude? Hehehe ... I am so lost :-P ... But I will share my J with ya, cause I think we both need one :-P **cough cough** -
Inappropriate? You can use my monkey avatar $$Free

I too feel that that sentence should be edited.

lucidstates... Dude, come on. The fact is, I may not be a celebrity, but even though I'm petty sure that they wont use my pictures for cash, the fact is that defamatory comments could be written. You may not like it, but you're looking only at one side of the coin. P.S. I'm not yet an adult yet. Who knows, I may be a celebrity yet. And I'll send you a *signed* picture. :-) -
Inappropriate? Is it fair to infer from the politely framed request for "A photo of you, preferably a head shot" that an effort is being made to filter out potentially tasteless Hubdub member pics?
I’m reading too much into this.

Inappropriate?I did the user survey recently, which much pretty revealed everything about me to admin concerning who I was. This is the first time ever I have done anything online like that in 12 years of internet usage. The reason I did it was because I felt that I should give something back to the people that created something I have enjoyed and has been a lot of fun to me. It was a fair swap, in a way.
This isn't a fair swap. This is a calculated first strategy, and there is a default strategy somewhere down the track - for example, offering a HD t-shirt might be a smart move to get people to cough up free face time.
I’m hmmm.

Wow, how do you not get spam? ... I only get spam from Myspace, but it remains on my MySpace, I use Gmail through my .Mac account, so I do not get spam either, but I used to get soooo much it was ridiculous, when I was with Yahoo Mail and Hotmail, it was an obscene amount of daily spam :-( ....... Naw, no challenge or invitation considered :-P ... I have always loved your pic/avatar/logo, hehehe :-D -
Inappropriate?I have to say I'm somewhat surprised by some of the responses here, but certainly understand where people are coming from. I also know some people don't like real life mixing too much with internet life. (My husband would never do it).
I wonder if Hubdub could rethink this strategy to maintain a little more anonymity. Perhaps just stick with avatars and home states/country? So I can remain jenniandboys from NY without giving out my real name (since you could never guess it) or my city.
I'm guessing they're just trying to show how people all over the world are enjoying the site and that can certainly be accomplished with cute pictures of animals (even Mork's ape picture) instead of real pictures.
I’m not being sarcastic

Nice work Jenni, oops, I meant anonymous person :-P ....... Yet again, a voice of good reasoning skills :-D ... I gave ya a STAR too :-D -
Jerry Spurbeck -jerjusttrolling/cognos Jenni Peterson -jenniandboys John Gilchrist-I don't remember who Jonathan Palma -lucidstates I more or less know ALL my friends names. Anonymous? Nope -
Inappropriate? It's seems that some people did not really get what I wanted to say. We'll, actually it seems only one did not, but I've stopped reading his responses as they became personal. And because they are too long.
To make it clear:
- I have fun playing HUBDUB
- I am willing to contribute to HUBDUB (I think no one else ever doubted)
- I would give HUBDUB a statement and my picture
- I DO NOT WANT ANY MONEY FOR THAT (oh, man, seriously, why would anyone want to pay for that?)
The only thing is: "however they wish"
It could, along with others, include "give it to third party" like affiliates. At that point, control over my data is being lost.
This must be formulated in a excluding way, stating explicitly what they "wish", and limiting the use to only that. This is the professional way. And HUBDUB is run by professionals, I'm sure.
I hope, Tom, you see what's the point here.

Kruijs, I am terribly sorry man. I was utterly wrong in every way, shape and form! ... Please forgive my arrogant attitude and accusing you of ill thoughts of the admins. I am truly very sorry man. Kruijs had me do something obvious, go read the terms and conditions for myself, which I admit I'd never done, and I am a total fool for it and for my attitude towards Kruijs. I know it does not help now, but I've deleted all of my ridiculous comments and insulting dialog from this Topic page. After reviewing the terms and conditions, it is very plain and easy to see how the HubDub Admins, though I have faith they would not do this, have every legal right to do anything like selling and otherwise, any information I supply to them that is not ALREADY part of my sign up and such. In their actual words here it is: We do not use your email address, mobile number or any other personally identifiable information to send commercial or marketing messages without your consent or except as part of a specific program or feature for which you will have the ability to opt-in or opt-out. You may, of course, decline to submit personally identifiable information through Hubdub.com, in which case Hubdub.com may not be able to provide certain services to you. There it is, plain as the nose on my face, and had I read that first, I would never have had a leg to stand on in my objections to Kruijs and the others' concerns. So I would like everyone who has read anything I've posted on this Topic page thus far, to know that I was absolutely wrong! Nothing else can be added to it, I was wrong, Kruijs was right, and I am sorry to him for my ill treatment of him and also for bringing down the class of this site. I will earnestly try hard going forward to be polite, respectful, treat others with the full dignity we all deserve and not make a fool of myself any further than I already have. Sorry everyone for being an idiot. lucidstates (ironic name now, hehe) -
Sorry Tom, my objection got somehow out of control. -
lucid, why did you delete your comments? now my (and other's) comments on those look really dumb without that context ... :-P -
Kruijs, ... Don't apologize, if I'd just kept my mouth shut and my eyes on the game, this whole thing would never have happened. It was my fault dude. And it's also my fault if your comments look to be pointing to no one, hehe, but I am sure anyone who's seen this Topic up to the last 10 min, knows exactly who they were to. ... I am just sorry again Kruijs for being a jerk. Seriously, I was wrong and also, thank you very much for pointing out the terms to me! You do not know what a huge help that is now and yes I do know MySpace, as the ONLY junk I ever get in my old email accounts comes from MySpace and the garbage they sold me to! ... I no longer use my old email addy as it is spam island over there! So thanks again, and I hope we can move on and you hold nothing against me as I certainly hold nothing against you! I'd be a further idiot if I did as you've done nothing wrong at all. lucidstates -
Inappropriate?I understand your point Kruijs, as that is a very real concern and is rightfully so a concern, (if they didn't know these details already). ... Maybe HubDub will change the language and maybe they should as many people do not like the broadness of it, however, is the new info you may give them any different from what they already know about you anyway? I do not see them needing you to repeat yourself just to sell what they already have on you. ....... Your point is well taken, I just see the concern as irrelevant cause they already know who you are. ..... But, if you do not want them to get that info again then okay, I just don't see how it changes anything.
I’m Learning to shorten my comments :-P
-
lucid, you still don't get the point. Please read the privacy statement (http://www.hubdub.com/public/privacy) and the terms/conditions page (http://www.hubdub.com/public/terms) first, and compare those restrictions with the "you can do with the information whatever you want" agreement here. Of course they know who I am. That's not the point. The point is: What do I allow them to do with the information. -
Dude, I will now make a TOTAL ass out of myself, not like I haven't already, hehe, and I will go read those terms, as to my shame I've never read them in the first place, hahahaha, I know I know, I am jackass. The way I see it is, no matter what they say, I wanted to play anyway, but I will read them and report back to you. And I have a feeling I'm going to be dead wrong and if I am, I will absolutely apologize and dude seriously, I am very sorry for insulting you man, I didn't mean to but I did and I must take responsibility for that. I hope you can forgive me as I would rally like you to, but I understand if you don't. I meant it sarcastically which was not right either, so I am sorry, I didn't mean it personal and now I will go read the terms and conditions man. lucidstates P.S. Sorry my comments are soooo long. My brother gets onto me allot for that and I must learn to shorten them. Chow :-)
