Politics Market Quarrels
Recently we've had some flags of a politics market regarding the superdelegates and the Democratic convention.
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/Who_wi...
The argument brought up about the need to either void or clarify was very good, and I'm a bit two sided on what to do, so I would like to get some input. The flag reasoning follows below:
"What does "win" mean? Does it refer to those who are pledged to one candidate or another, OR does it refer to who will receive the most superdeligate votes? The question needs to be clarified or voided as it is unclear what "win" means. Isn't the vote private, and therefore we'd be speculating anyway?"
So what is everyones thoughts?

Inappropriate?I would cheerlead for questions like this, that are listed in the "Official Hubdub Forum" also be referenced in the "Comments" section of the market they reference.
This is not a finger-pointy comment about this question, as there are an astounding number of questions posted here asking for user-feedback that are not referenced in the comments of the applicable question.
I would hazard a guess that less than 5% of the registered Hubdub users are registered to use this forum (due, in large measure to the confusion that one needs to register anew on this board) -- and, in my view, trying to gather user feedback about a specific market, without informing that market, is irresponsible.
In many instances, settlement rules have been decided in this Forum, settlement decisions have been reversed, and no mention that the discussion was taking place -- or even that changes had been made -- other than in the 9pt type of the "Settlement Details" -- was posted in the affected market!
It's my hope, that moving forward, all changes to Settlement Details that could significantly change the meaning of the original question, and all discussions about specific markets debated here, be referenced in the "Comments" of the market involved, as a "Hubdub Best Practice".

Inappropriate?Hi Truth,
Good point, I've know made a comment on that market with a link to this discussion.

Inappropriate?I agree. This should be added to the rules and guidelines. Even if you follow this board, it's getting harder and harder to keep up with every new topic. I wonder if it's possible to "follow" new topics, so you can opt to get email each time a new topic is posted (this wouldn't mean you are following the new topic itself yet - you'd have to actually choose to do so).

Inappropriate? Why is the Politics category limited to American politics? Are the politics in the rest of the world not interesting enough to be listed in this category but are relegated to the "world" category. Odd the the world category is broken down into continents and politics is strictly american. Is this a marketing plan?

Inappropriate?Ryan - in the discussion of the discussion, no one seems to have actually answered your question. I'll just throw my cent in - I take 'win' to be who receives the most superdelegate votes at the convention. It seems likely that the superdelegate votes will avalanche behind whoever is the current front runner, so I think we will know who took the majority of the supers. However there is a definite chance that it won't be quite as clear at which point you have to void a question that has been in play for months and months (which would definitely suck).
My vote is to keep it, but I certainly understand the alternate argument and will bow to the majority decision.

Inappropriate?By rule even a super delegate that commits to a candidate before the convention can change thier vote with no reason. This question seems to be a simple question of which candidate will recieve the majority of votes by super delegates, I am sure it will be widely reported, and easy to settle. I believe if we try to parse every word and dissect the meaning of each syllable, then all questions could be voided. I believe the standard should be the reasonable man test, does it make sense, if so let it be.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the response to my question guys. I'll keep the market in play and see how everything develops.
To the question on why Politics is, for now only American Politics. With UK politics and the sort having their place in the world category, the answer is that as of now a large market of users is based in the US. In the future we may have different versions of the site based on where your located but as of right now we aren't focusing on that.

Inappropriate?I hope, if you go this way, that people from out of region will still be allowed to wager on questions. That's half the fun of hubdub.
-
Inappropriate?I hope people didn't misunderstand, although we are having a high level focus on US Politics. All regions participate, we aren't trying to undercut those not from the US at all.

Inappropriate?I didn't mean my comment in that way. I just was wondering, if in the future you have different versions for different locales, will we still have access to all the questions, even those in the different regions/versions?
But, in general, this question of why the site is US-centric keeps coming up. Maybe you need to address this , ie explain it, on the Notice Board, or in the FAQ? -
Inappropriate?i think i started that train of thought, if i had taken the time to read the "about hubdub" link i would not have questioned why the US-Centric. i was having too much trying out all the button thingies
I’m happy
