Type of gaming and how to stop it.
I have noticed many people in the leaderboard who have $0, this lead me to belive that people are making an extra Hubdub account and using the extra one to place a bet on the opposite answer to tip the scale, then they bet on the actual answer with the real account so when they win they will get more money.
We could solve this by looking at every accounts IP address and delete all the accounts with the same IP address exept the one with the highest Net Worth.

Inappropriate?Blocking by IP address is a myth. Most people are on dynamic or shared connections. Almost all users at the university of Edinburgh for example connect to us through just 2 IP addresses, whilst our office uses just 1. In addition both me and my flatmate share a connection (which is also dynamic). Blocking further registrations from the same IP would therefore not only fail to solve the problem, it would also certainly affect other users.
We do monitor the creation of new accounts to try to spot trends such as this, and I don't think it's currently a problem. The most likely reason for accounts with 0 balance are accounts which have been created but never had the email address confirmed. -
Inappropriate? This is actually one of the easiest types of gaming to spot and in general hasn't been a big problem. Most of the top users have a zero cash balance as they want to stay fully invested.

Inappropriate?Something different, but maybe "gaming". Seems that for me to be able to "compete" in the leader boards with my friends and site-wide, I have to participate in the various stock market index questions by repeatedly making predictions and cashing in. Doing so is okay, but takes considerable time, which I am beginning to enjoy less and less, and could very possibly result in me discontinue my Hubdub participation. I do enjoy the stock market index questions, but don't like having to make continuous predictions and cash ins. Only way I know to remedy this is to limit the times a member can make predictions and cash in on a given questions, but I can understand not wanting to do it too.
I’m having to spend too much time.

Inappropriate?Yea, AnAverageAmerican and I are on the same network (and you can be sure that we aren't the same person, I mean look at our intelligence [mine is clearly higher ;) ] )
I’m happy someone is looking out!

I don't know your current procedure but I have a suggestion based on this comment:
"The most likely reason for accounts with 0 balance are accounts which have been created but never had the email address confirmed."
Void all new accounts that do not confirm their e-mail address within 5 days.
This should clear out a lot of the stuff that is just taking up space. The few people who might be adversely affected can always just sign up again. -
Inappropriate? There are several simple data analysis methods by which the vast majority of CHRONIC gamers, should they exist, could be identified. Nothing is totally foolproof but I suspect the capable proprietors of Hubdub already have this automated and in place.
