I acesss Hulu through AOL Video. Recently while I was watching an old tv show, one of the free access shows, the sound disappeared and I cannot figure how to restore it. The sound card on my computer is still ok (I can still receive music). What happened?

Inappropriate?I'm sorry to hear that you're encountering difficulties with our services. If you're still experiencing audio problems, can you please try the following steps?
1. Verify that the volume settings in the Hulu player are correctly set.
2. Verify that your computer speaker volumes and settings are correctly set.
3. Verify that other media speakers such as Windows Media Player or Quicktime can output audio.
4. Restart the browser and try watching Hulu videos again.
5. If that does not work, restart the computer and try watching Hulu videos.
If these steps do not resolve your issue, please reinstall Flash by following these steps:
1. Uninstall Flash following these steps - http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewC... .
2. Restart your computer.
3. Reinstall the latest version of Flash following these steps - http://www.adobe.com/support/flashpla... .
You can also try to do the following:
- Go to the Hulu.com homepage.
- Right-click on the big video image in the middle of the screen and
select the "Settings..." menu option.
- Click the third tab with the folder icon. You should see a menu that
says "Local Storage".
- Drag the slider all the way to "0" and then click "OK".
- Drag the slider back up to "100KB" and then click "Close".
- Try to play any video at Hulu. Does it work now?
Please let me know if this still doesn't resolve your issue.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Flash Player (and it was a later version) fixed the no sound problem. Thanks -
Inappropriate?I am having the same problem - well, slightly different - commercials, movies and tv episodes have no sound, but clips on http://www.hulu.com/collections/83 have sound (including commercials). I have sound on other sites like youtube.com.
I tried all of the steps listed above with no change. -
Inappropriate?I'm having the same issue as Ducky. I can play clips on Hulu but with no sound, and when I clicked on the collections link above the sound was just fine. The strangest thing is that I was visiting Hulu and playing videos with sound and then one day was unable to hear anything. I've taken all the suggested steps, but nothing changes.

Inappropriate?I had a similar problem. My sound issues were only with Firefox 3. Other Firefox users have also noted similar sound issues. Hulu and other sites worked fine on internet explorer and opera.
I found this solution on the Firefox forums that worked for me. Select Tool>Options>Main>Manage Add Ons>Plugins and disable the flash plugin. After I rebooted and re-enabled the plugin my sound started working.
If that didn't work, you could try something different. This is the forum address:

Inappropriate?I have tried all the fixes above. the audio works for a period of time. and only then only works after a reboot! this is annoying

Inappropriate?I am experiencing the same issue as Ducky as well. Sound works in all other applications and (so-far) all other flash video websites with Firefox 3. Furthermore, those videos on the collection page play fine with sound. Videos elsewhere on the site play without sound -- even the same ones on that collection page. I.e., if I choose a link from the section in the upper right hand corner labeled "Videos in this collection" I again have no sound.
I wonder what explains the difference. -
Inappropriate? One problem I just had was with my 5.1 Stereo that has 6 channel direct configuration with 3 separate inputs for the front/back/subwoofer. The problem was that when I plugged them all in, my front speakers didn't get set up correctly, hulu and many you tube videos only have stereo that only carries signals for front and right speakers, everything else will be off. So in summary, just unplug everything and connect it all again on at a time so that each channel is set up correctly.

Inappropriate?I can watch Hulu fine in WinXP, but not in Linux. All other providers of flash video feeds work flawlessly in Linux. Also, the "collections" in Hulu play properly in Linux. I can also play Hulu properly from an XP virtual machine running on top of my Linux host.
I have been watching shows on Joost instead, since it experiences no such problems. A resolution to this would be appreciated, since I prefer the higher quality streams available from Hulu. Until then, advertising revenue will go to Joost instead. -
Inappropriate?Well, I haven't learned anything new but have tried Hulu periodically since reporting this here. Several days ago it just started to work. Firefox did just upgrade recently but I don't know why that should make a big difference. Still, it seems like the only factor I can really pinpoint that changed. Obviously I don't know if anything changed on the provider's side. I'm just glad to be able to watch Hulu again.
Anyone else who has been having this problem, it's worth trying again to see if it works for you too. -
Inappropriate? No sound for me. Using the latest version of Kubuntu 9.10, all updates, was using Firefox 3 and Boxee and neither detected and audio stream from Hulu. uninstalled Adobe (and all SWF players) and reinstalled just Adobe from scratch, no luck. installed Firefox 3.5, no luck. Storage trick didn't help either. All sound levels are up and unmuted. .mkv videos have no issues, neither do system sounds. Please help!
I’m missing Hulu..

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 (32bit), Firefox 3.0.13, Flash 10,0,32,18 (the latest version, according to Adobe), and I get sound with no problems. It's a bit hard to say if something's just broken in 9.10 (it's still early in its release process, right?), or just your particular combination of software.
A few things to check may be:
- are you getting sound during ads? those are delivered slightly differently.
- can you get sound on sites like Youtube?
- can you get sound on full-length episodes on sites like NBC.com or CBS.com? -
Inappropriate? It's still working fine for me with 9.04 and most recent Adobe flash plugin. 9.10 is still alpha, so it's not clear if this has something to do with that.
One thing that I recall when it started working again was sliding the sound control (in the Hulu video player) all the way to silent and then back up again. I heard a kind of a 'pop' like the line level changing discontinuously and when I brought the volume slider back up sound was audible. It almost seems as if the sound had gotten muted in the flash player and the state of the volume/mute got reset somehow while manipulating the volume slider.

Sorry to steer everyone off course I was using Kubuntu 9.04, latest of everything. I've since done a reinstall of Ubuntu 9.04 and it works fine. Thanks everyone. -
Hey that trick of turning down the volume all the way down and up again seemed to fix it. Weird. As you said, it seems the mute function gets screwed up in Hulu (and only Hulu, don't have problems with any other site). -
Inappropriate?Good to hear. I am using Kubuntu 9.04, by the way.
