Why is the latest southbound bus earlier than the latest northbound?
I'm incredibly curious as to why the latest southbound bus through Arcata to Eureka is at 9pm, while the latest northbound bus is at 10:30pm (from the Arcata Transit center stop). I personally can often only travel between Arcata and Eureka by bus, as I'm in high school and can't drive (or afford to), and so the latest I can ever leave town to go home is 9pm. I'm sure there might not be a large demand for a later southbound bus, but I would certainly appreciate it greatly on occasions when I have no other means of transportation at such a late hour. I'm actually moving out of Humboldt in the next few months for college, but I thought it would be worth voicing my opinion.

Inappropriate?Hi,
I don't know all the considerations that have gone into the current schedule, but I do understand that the current RTS schedule has been the product of an effort to squeeze the most out of a limited budget for Redwood Transit System. Neighboring transit agencies (in Mendocino and Del Norte) spend more, proportionally to their gas tax revenues, on transit. For more information on this circumstance, see this article: http://www.green-wheels.org/node/211
If you want to improve this situation, I suggest writing a letter to a local paper, contacting your county supervisor, or joining or volunteering with Green Wheels at www.green-wheels.org.

Inappropriate?Hello,
Thanks for your question. Aaron is correct when he talks about our "tight" budget. The two different times you are referring to is actually the same bus. To add another late bus for more frequency would cost approximately $1500/wk. (something we just can't afford to do at the present time) If the funds become available for HTA, later service would definitely be something worth looking into.

Maybe we don't need more service--since funds are limited, maybe we need instead a bus we can take to work (or school) and get home--in other words a change in time. For the morning bus, I would be delighted to get to Eureka before 7 AM from the north. And I have given a ride to at least one other person who would be on that bus, too!
