Inappropriate? It'd be cool if users could do things like add cover art, add films to the database or add information to existing films. There could be a confirmation system in which other users vote on whether the information that someone submits of a film is accurate.
Its just that the current system of submitting the name of a film that doesn't exist on the site yet, and waiting for admins to add it feels a little...distant. and there are some obvious gaps in the database that could probably be filled more quickly if all the users were capable of overseeing and helping the site's library grow more accurate and complete
also, forums seperate from the specific film forums, for just general film conversation (or even off-topic conversation) would be cool and also help the social atmosphere of the site -
Inappropriate?Aronf13,
We agree 100% on the addition of some kind of ability to allow users to add data to the site. It's both a lot more logical and speedy (as far as data entry goes) to split the load amongst many a users. Unfortunately, the pieces of data we've tried to allow users to edit or create directly haven't been all too used. Whether it's our fault for not directly advertising them better or making them intuitive or not, I don't know, but things like Actor/Director biographies and plots are generally (and this is speaking for the most part, not a blanket statement applying to everyone) unused by all but a few select people (most of whom are admins to the site).
So, while it would make more logical sense to add the ability, we question whether the time taken off developing features that we see an immediate need for is worth it in the long run at this point in time.
So, to answer the question in a shorter fashion: we're all for the idea, just don't know if now would be the right time to develop it.
As far as the forums, those are definitely on the agenda in the next few projects. Currently, we're beefing up the user collection section to make it faster and more intuitive. After that's completed we'll be rolling out a series of updates including forums, a new homepage design and some other simple tweaks we've got in the works.
Thanks so much for your comments and suggestions and I'm all for hearing any more you have.

Inappropriate?that's understandable for the addition of actors, directors, producers and other film staff.
but i think the simple ability to add existing films to the database wouldn't be neglected by any of the users since, as opposed to incomplete movie staff, which not a lot of casual users have a need for, everyone's probably searched for a valued film in their collection, had it not turn up, and wanted to just add it right there.
It would be the kind of feature that literally isn't used until it has to be, but every time it has to be used it definitely would be.
Just something to consider when weighing the pros and cons.
Otherwise, i just wanna say, 3 thumbs up to this site. I can't stress enough how long I've waited for a user-based film rating site with a format that rivals the music equivalent, RYM

Inappropriate?Aronf13,
It's something we'll have to consider so that we make sure it's done in the best and most accurate way possible. A possible solution may be to have the search submission engine allow users to submit all the data they know on a film to speed up the addition into the system. We could have them enter a title, year, runtime, mpaa rating, etc. We can even show some search results for different covers that match the title they entered based on an Amazon search (we actually do this now to get our covers entered in and it's pretty slick). Regardless of the way we do it, it could allow the users to take on more of the load in entering a film and leave us only with a smaller portion therefore effectively reducing the amount of time it takes to enter in a film or tv show.
While the ideas would all have to be thought out more to avoid possible problems, this would be one of the quicker solutions that comes to mind.
Glad you're enjoying the site and if you find anything else you'd like to see on it or you run into a problem, feel free to holler.

Inappropriate?I was browsing the site for a while and couldn't find a way to add a few films, this is a brilliant idea. I love it! Would it be possible to also get brownie points with films a user may add, that would be a nice incentive :) Keep up the great work! I'm so glad I found the site.
I’m excited!
