How do either (a) unfriend people and/or (b) stop receiving messages from "friends" who keep promoting things I don't care about?

Yea, it needs to be a feature quickly. At least an "unsubscribe" feature. Otherwise I'll have to filter out all these messages as "spam". I just don't want the messages and have no other choice right now. -
Inappropriate?I would like to turn off my notification settings. My username is "socialcoop". It seems like it should be a pretty standard feature.
