Calculating average gas use over the year
How are the calculations made when working out the energy rating for your home? Does the system take into account the fact that you are likely to use more gas in the winter for heating and expect you to have a lower use in the summer or is the use averaged out over the whole year?
I seem to be using a lot more gas than the system expects despite not having had any heating on since starting the measurements.

Inappropriate? The carbon badge is created using the data of all the imeasure users in the last four weeks with up-to-date profiles. This means the badge is in sink with the seasons. At the moment there are only a relatively small number of users because we have just opened out imeasure therefore the badging is not directly comparable to the national averages. When we tested imeasure with a hundred users last year we did find the badging was able to map to the national averages. We are hoping in the next few months with more users on imeasure the badging will be more solid.
Even though your heating is off you will still have some gas use in the summer for hot water heating.
Thanks for using imeasure, do keep any questions/comments you have coming, Catherine -
For new users with insufficient readings the carbon rating shows as a misleading A+. Consider hiding the carbon rating until enough readings have been made -
Inappropriate? Thanks very much for the reply. I guess that part of the issue at the moment may be that the people using it are likely to be interested in reducing their carbon footprint and so may have lower usage than the general population.
I'll keep taking the measurements and look forwards to seeing if the solar panel we're hoping to have installed soon will have any effect. imeasure should make it easier to see this.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Hi,
What sort of boiler do you have?
We are using a lot less than we used to cos we have a new condensing combi boiler so are using about 1 unit every 2 days during the summer.
We don't have it on at all it just heats the water when we turn the tap on.
So we are not having to have the hot water on for an hour or two a day just the 2 minutes to fill the sink or 5 min for a shower.
I’m happy
