I am confused about entering my readings
Hi imeasurers,
A number of people have emailed at bit confused about entering their weekly readings if after the "weekending date" listed. The weekending date is always the sunday, but because sundays are 24 hrs long the box for entering readings doesn't appear until 12:01 am on the Monday.
We offer the option of specifying the number of days after the week ending date you have taken your readings in order to calculate the last 7 days' (i.e. the last week) energy use. For example, if you took a reading on a monday one week and then your next reading on the following thursday that would be 11 days difference. So if you specified that the second reading was taken 4 days late then imeasure calculates the daily energy use and multiplies by 7 to estimate how much energy you used over 7 days. However, if you always take your readings on a tuesday there is always 7 days between readings so no need to specify it is late.
We took the approach of saying when your next reading was due in hopes it would help the habit of meter reading. However, please don't feel you have to read you meter each week if that is not convenient or the way you want to use imeasure. imeasure will still calculate your energy use between readings.
I hope this clarifies a bit more how imeasure works. We are developing a new version of imeasure in which it will be possible to specify the date you have taken your readings.
Best, Catherine

Inappropriate?I'm confused now. For the first time today I believed I was taking my readings on the day that I thought that imeasure intended, i.e. on a Sunday. On the two previous occasions, I entered them a day or two after a Sunday and noted that. So this time I have taken the readings today. But now in imeasure I find that there's no box to enter them. My last reading is recorded as 25 Jan. A week on from that is 1 Feb, i.e. today. But the meter reading web page is saying next reading 2 Feb. In practice, the convenient thing for a consumer to do is to take the readings and then. while thinking about that, go to the computer and enter them. But I can't seem to do that on a Sunday.
So should I simply forget about Sundays and on Monday both read and enter the readings?
I’m puzzled

Hi Julian,
The reason the reading input box does not appear on Sunday is because (the weekending) Sunday is 24 hrs. The reading input box will appear 00:01am on a Monday. For a good week to week comparison it is best to be consistent with when you take your reading (e.g. every Monday morning - which is what I do). If you pretty much always take you reading on the same day each week it isn't necessary to specify the reading was taken late or early from the weekending X.
Thanks, Catherine -
Thanks Catherine. I think I'll use Mondays too. - Julian -
Inappropriate? To clarify further for a new imeasurer. Does this have something to do with why, when I am entering my meter readings 2 or 3 days late, the readings are slightly different after I have confirmed them and I am not seeing things! With my first pair of readings I went back and 'corrected' them. Should I not be doing this, and if not, what's my best way forward now please?

Inappropriate?Would the simplest way to deal with meter readings be to have a standard textbox on the readings form in which to enter the date (and possibly time?) of the reading? It could even be populated by default with a value one week since the last reading or today's date. Surely this would remove any ambiguity about exactly when a reading should be/was taken. This would also provide an easy way of entering historic readings as suggested by Kevin in another thread.

We've done a lot of thinking about this and have come to the conclusion that the simplest option is to encourage users to take their meter readings regularly. It doesn't matter when you add them as long as you take the readings at roughly the same time each week. This way you will be able to see how changes you make will affect your carbon output over time. If you miss a reading, take it at the same time the following week and enter that. imeasure will caculate an average value for the missing reading.
We have also improved the way that you can edit historic readings. The new imeasure is now much better at handling a meter which has gone round the clock. It should be automatic, just keep entering the readings as they appear on your meter.
If your meter is changed, you will have to add it as a new meter in the add meters section. You can simply leave the old meter where it is and stop entering readings or you can delete it.
