WebTrends tag audit with nested javascripts on a large site ...
I help manage a large site with lots of content ... let's say ballpark 100K pages. Because they are constructed by different organizations they implement the "required" WebTrends tagging in a variety of ways ... the most complex includes a javascript aaa.js that in turn calls a javascript bbb.js that may finally call ccc.js which actually generates the tracking pixel.
I want to do an audit to insure all 100K pages eventually generate a tracking pixel - and identify any that don't. No more, no less. And I don't want to spend a million dollars on a solution ('cause my boss doesn't have it). WASP perhaps?
My concerns:
1) will the crawl do the job given the nested scripts?
2) can I set this up on an "unmonitored" PC - I don't think I want to use my personal box - I'd rather set it up as an app on a dedicated box and forget about it for a while
3) are there any "service options" ... like I tell you the domains I want to scan and you send me the results?
4) is my site simply "too large/deep" for the tool ...
Thanks in advance ... not sure of exactly what the protocol is here - perhaps I should open a private dialog should the initial responses indicate a path forward?

Inappropriate?WASP is the tool for the job, although 100k pages is a bit large...
WASP is your cheapest alternative (699$) for unlimited use, on any number of sites, for any number of pages.
There is no "hard" limit to the number of pages being crawled. A reasonable size for a single crawl is around 10k pages, but you can resume a crawl if there's any kind of error. Usually, large sites are constructed of a number of templates. Once you know a template works, you can tell WASP to stop looking at other pages fitting this template pattern, thus reducing the number of pages to crawl.
1) source code/nested JavaScript: WASP doesn't look at the source code, it "sniff" the end result image request, so it really doesn't matter how the JavaScript tags are implemented.
2) standalone app: WASP is not currently a standalone application that can be run in batch mode. But you could certainly dedicate a PC (or multiple ones, each one looking for a specific site section) to do the task and check it once in a while.
3) Service option: Yes, this is something I can offer. When I do it, I can send you the raw data and/or an analysis that will tell you exactly what's going on (or in fact, what's NOT going on!) WASP itself will give you the data, you still have to understand what it means...(i.e. WA implementation experience & knowledge of WebTrends)
4) Site size: no, the site isn't too large. It's more a matter of looking at individual domains, looking at templates, knowing the WA tool (WebTrends in this case) and having a strong experience with website development & web analytics implementation.
