Unusually high memory usage with widgets
I just noticed that these widgets seems to use a very high amount of memory. They essentially just update an image file, right? So why would one need to use nearly 100M of ram? It seems like they are very simple applications to be using so many resources.
My current approximate usage:
Bump 2 Time: 93 MB
Bump 2 Animation: 80MB
Bump 2 Weather: 78MB
These are all higher than even BumpTop by itself.
Specs:
Bumptop Beta 17 (2100)
Windows XP x64 SP2
AMD Phenom 9850 (Quad-Core 2.5 Ghz)
4 GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX
All the latest drivers

Inappropriate?Bump 2 Time uses certain images that it keeps in memory for faster processing. Since it runs at low intervals we felt this was the best way. I hope BumpTop gets rid of the blinking though. It sounds like your computer could handle it at 1 second intervals for a very smooth hand motion.
I will look into Bump 2 Animation and Bump 2 Weather and see if it is releasing the resources though. Thanks for the report. -
Inappropriate?Yeah, my specs are pretty high, so I have no trouble running them at all. It just seemed a bit strange. I'd wager lower-end machines might run into issues.
You're right: the blinking on refresh is kind of annoying. I understand thats an issue with the way BumpTop handles updated files, and not the widgets themselves, though.
I’m happy to help

Inappropriate? We have tested this on a older machine that can barely handle BumpTop and here are the specs:
The higher end is when it is processing
Bump 2 Time: 13-20MB
Bump 2 Animation: 2-3MB
Window To The Weather: 1-4MB
I was thinking about this, and it may be your machine not needing resources and therefore not releasing different things, but my computer runs at about the same memory usage as the older machine and it is about the same specs as yours. I'll look into it though. You could get a program called minimem and it will help optimize your system. -
Inappropriate?Something else I noticed: If I set Bump 2 Time to refresh once a second, it uses about 12% of my CPU power. That seems awfully high.
-
Inappropriate?Unfortunately that is true. Which is why we released the program without a second hand. For 80% of the users it will be just fine updating once a min.
And for the extreme second and third cases, Typically those people are power users.
