how is this different from authorize.net virtual terminal?

what does this app do that I cant do through the "Virtual Terminal" on https://account.authorize.net ? it seems that this app is merely a larger keyboard to type the info in. if that's the case $50 is too expensive as "Virtual Terminal" is free. please advise. thanks.

Hi, Tommy. Thanks for the question.

Why not just use mobile Safari to access a web-based virtual terminal?

Our iPhone app lets you run transactions easier and faster, with fewer retries. Here's how:

    • Sign in once. With our app, you enter your API Login ID and Transaction Key once, test that it is correct, and after that you can run a transaction in just a few seconds. With the virtual terminal, you have to sign in every time. This eliminates a lot of hassle for merchants who run a transaction or two at a time.

    • Low transaction overhead. Our app works well on cell networks (Edge/3G) because we exchange very small messages with Authorize.Net. In contrast, the virtual terminal requires that you download a full web page for every transaction, and it also takes time for your iPhone to process and display that web page.

    • iPhone UI. We've customized the UI specifically for entering credit card data. For example, I'd much rather type numbers using the large numeric keypad than the full QWERTY keyboard. That way I spend spend less time hitting the backspace key or retrying typo'd transactions.

Also, we're working on new features for Credit Card Terminal that will extend its capabilities even further. Stay tuned!
