Unlocking your INQ handset in India
INQ Chat 3G and INQ Mini 3G were designed to work on the Aircel network, but can be used on any network in India. To use your INQ handset on a network other than Aircel, there are 3 steps:
1. Unlock your handset.
2. Make sure you have the latest software.
3. Apply the correct network settings.
By far the easiest way to do this is to visit one of our service centres located around India. To find your nearest INQ service centre, click here. You'll need Adobe PDF reader.
INQ staff will help you to unlock and update your handset and change your network settings in person. Alternatively please call our free support hotline: 1800 1025 366.
If you’d rather update the phone yourself, here’s how:
1. Unlock your handset.
Call our free support hotline: 1800 1025 366 and quote your IMEI number (you’ll find your IMEI printed on a label under the battery on your INQ handset). You’ll be given an unlock code. Insert your new network SIM and start the handset. You will now be prompted to enter the unlock code.
2. Check you have the latest software.
We’ve optimized the software on our phones to work on any network. To check you have the latest software, from the home screen enter the following:
* 2 5 8 0 [down (ie press the lower edge of the round red navigation key)]
You’ll see an “App version” reference, starting INQQ1_V1.0.XXX. If it reads
INQQ1_V1.0.63
you have the latest software, and you’re ready to apply network settings. If the last 2 digits are lower than 63, you need to update the software: please call 1800 1025 366 or visit your nearest INQ service centre.
3. Apply the correct network settings.
If you don’t know your new network settings (ie access point names, proxies and web addresses), please call 1800 1025 366 or visit your nearest INQ service centre.
If you know your new network settings (i.e. access point names, IP and portal addresses) you can update your INQ phone yourself. Follow the steps below to update your network settings.

1. Add the new network settings:

- Scroll down and insert the Username and Password of your new network provider’s proxy gateway, if required by your network provider
- Select OK
- Scroll to Network Access Point and select it
- Scroll to the MMS access point name you created (e.g. network.mms) and select it
- Select Back
- Scroll to the account you have just created and select Activate. You should now be able to send and receive picture messages to and from your phone.

Inappropriate? This is good! But, are there plans to make this available in other countries as well? I recently went to Australia but couldn't use my Inq Mini 3G on *any* network :-(
-
The principle applies wherever you are using an INQ phone: to use it on another network you first need to get an unlock code from the network operator who issued the phone, and then need to update the APN settings (which obviously you need to request from them). Hope this helps, Martin -
Inappropriate?Im planing to get a new hand set , which i will be using to surf as well... is this really a good choice... how is it better to other qwerty keyboard handsets..... wat OS does it have??? and also hows the battery backup???

As commented above, you first need to request an unlock code from the network operator who issued the handset (maybe 3UK?). You then need to request new APN settings from your network operator in India - and apply them by following the instructions above. Good luck, Martin -

Inappropriate?Suphadip, Anadi
Can I suggest you contact the INQ service centre in India (it's a freephone number inside India):
1800 1025 366
The team will be able to help you set up your APN settings correctly. They should also be able to provide you with settings for most of the major operators.
Please let me know how you get on.
thanks

Inappropriate?Hi Martin:
I called your service center last week and they indicated that the GPRS/WAP settings will be provided by VODAFONE. Vodafone has pathetic services and are of no help what-so-ever.
I would requeswt you to send me the step by step method for activating GPRS with network settings (i.e. access point names, IP and portal addresses) to get my INQ working.
Kind regards,

PS: Really fond of the phone.....and what the internet switched on ASAP.

Inappropriate?Dear Martin,
The guys at INQ Helpline in India are pathetic... They really do not know much about the phone itself. They keep asking users to contact service provider for help. Unfortunately Vondafone or Airtel service providers do not have any information about INQ and its settings.
What is more shocking is that the IMEI number when sms to Vodafone returns as invalid. The guys at Vodafone even told me that this Mobile is a Chinese fake....
I really like the phone but here are few things we demand as a user and not just requesting.
1) When you are providing unlock codes then please also guide users to use alternate network.
2) How on earth do we make Twitter / facebook / Cricinfo work with new network.
3) How do i remove Aircel logo and options since i am not using its services.
4) Have basic service infrastructure ready before launch of product.
Regards
Subhadip -
Hi Suphadip - sorry to hear our call centre team haven't been able to help you. To address your points in order:
1. There's nothing fake about this handset. INQ Chat 3G was designed by the team here in London for use in India and other countries. To unlock your phone you need to give the IMEI to INQ (Vodafone won't have a record of IMEI numbers for our phones).
2. The service centre team should have all the settings you need for your network. If they can't help you, please drop me an email to support@inqmobile.com and I will follow up personally.
3. Twitter, Facebook, CricInfo will work on your network; but you'll need to unlock the phone, check you have the latest software, and ensure the settings for your network are added to your INQ Chat 3G. Again, our service centre team are best placed to help with this.
4. Unfortunately we don't have a way to remove the Aircel logos (the phone was designed for use on the Aircel network - and while we can't remove these logos, all the services should work on your network once the phone is updated)
The quickest way to set your phone up to work on your network is probably to visit your nearest INQ service centre. You can download a list of our service centres here.
Hope this helps

hi martin
this is Gaurav, I bought this INQ chat 3G 3 days back. Because of the version issues I talk with customer care 3 times and been to service center 2 times.
Customer care is okay I should say they are fast and supportive, but the service at service center is pathetic. I went to “khurana Brothers-Vikar marg, delhi”. They are not at all supportive even saying that "why you bought this mobile, its a problematic mobile." They don't have knowledge, I told to update my version as it was INQQ1_V1.0.56 and hence the dedicated applications and Push mail were not working.
To my utter disappointment even after updating the version for 3 hrs my version is still INQQ1_V1.0.56, I asked them how to check my version they said “they don’t know”. Nothing was working all settings gone. I asked them to do the setting for my Vodafone, they said "its not their Job". I asked them the INQ customer care number they said "They don't know". Now again I am with my brand new cellphone with no application working which was actual attraction of the cell.
INQ has just been launched in India and if support will be like this, it will certainly bring this cellphone in the same cheap China mobile category.
Trust me applications and features are not brand making elements today, as there are hundreds of mobile with loads of features in the market. Reliability and support are the main concern of customer today.

They can help you with unlocking the phone, ensuring the software is correct and applying the right settings for your network.

Inappropriate?Dear Meah,
I am really worrier about INQ service in India now. I took my Chat 3G handset to Redington India (Kolkata) service center. They took my mobile for 30 minutes and returned it. They also made me sign service documents but when i checked my software version back home i was surprised to see that they did not update the software they simply loaded the same version. You guys really need to wake up and take so tough steps. Please inform Redington India since they have no updates / spares of INQ products.

Hi Suphadip
Please accept our apologies for the poor experience you'd had with our service team in Kolkata. As mentioned via email to you, we are now taking corrective action to ensure a fully working handset is restored to you as soon as possible. Once again, our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience. Martin -
Hi Suphadip
You should by now have received your updated handset. Please let me know if it has not arrived, or if there are any problems with it.

Hi Martin,
I am really speechless, thanks a ton. I have never received this level of customer care from any company.
Please let me know if i can help team INQ in any way out here in India.
A BIG THANK YOU once again.

Subhadip -
No need - you've already helped by letting us know that service wasn't working. Your feedback is much appreciated! Hope we get things right for you in future -
Inappropriate?hi,
can i directly update with new software in India to get rid of the old software of chat 3g which i have bought from UK and eventually unlock it here in India without going to the network operator which ussued it... -
Hi Sameer - to unlock a handset bought from 3UK you'd really need to go back to them. Since you're over in India now, please drop me an email and we'll see if we can help you: support@inqmobile.com
thanks, Martin -
Inappropriate?Hi,
I have noticed some existing problem even after upgrading to INQQ1_V1.0.63.
The applications that work :-
1. Google Maps
2. INQ HUB
3. My Aircel (Even if i am on Vodafone)
Applications that dont work :-
1. Facebook
2. Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 (Preloaded)
3. Twitter
The funny thing is that when i download Opera Mini browser it works perfectly fine but the existing pre-loaded Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 will not work. The error message shown "Connection Failed - Unable to connect. Please review your network settings".
While logging in to Twitter it still displays this message at start up "You're currently roaming. You can choose to update when roaming by changing the roaming settings."
When i click ok this message is displayed Twitter is currently unavailable, please try later (20495).
While logging into Facebook it shows the following message at start up. "You're currently roaming. You will be charged for updating Facebook. Change your settings to update while roaming". After clicking ok it shows "There is a problem connecting please tray again later."
When connecting to Facebook of Twitter through web browser it works absolutely fine but the default applications do not connect. Any new Apps that are downloaded which requires net connectivity also works fine. -
Hi Suphadip -- sorry things still aren't quite right. Let's see if we can fix this finally for you. Firstly please let me know your Network Access Point settings, exactly as they appear, and in the order in which they appear.
The problem you describe suggests something is not quite right with your GPRS settings, hence the request to take a closer look.
Please get back to me at your convenience.
thanks

Inappropriate?@Martin : Thanks a lott for your reply as i am back in India there is very less that i can do...i.e. i cannot go back or ask anyone to contact 3. i HOPE something can be done to make it functional. i will mail formally on the email id u mentioned
cheers,
sameer -
Hi Sameer - please let us have your IMEI number when you contact us. IMEI can be found under the battery on your handset. thanks -
Inappropriate?I just discovered that the Modem function on INQ Chat 3G (Unlocked) do not work as all the settings present by default are of Aircel.
What i have understood that this phone is basically meant for Aircel Network and will not be fully functional on other networks. Unless of course the whole phone software is upgraded to allow full open network settings change. I have the feeling that the default applications like Facebook / twitter are fixed for a particular network settings and since they cannot be edited these cant be used on other network also.
I think we really need a full Software update and not just a patch. This upgrade should make the phone easier to integrate with other popular mobile network in India like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea.
I dont mind using Aircel but their network strength is really like a joke. The signal strength will show full but when you call from another line and see it will be unavailable.
If INQ have decided to unlock their phones then all the features should be compatible with popular GSM / 3G vendors.
The scope for growth is huge since at this moment this is one of the very few 3G handset available in Indian market and the biggest plus point is that this is the cheapest of all. But in order to catch the demanding market at this right time since 3G is slated to be live by October 2010, we have to have a phone capable of any network. -
Subhadip,
Thanks for posting the internet/wap settings.
So this means that without an aircel sim, there is no way of using the default apps for facebook/twitter? or did you manage to find a workaround for this..
Thanks
Nel -
Inappropriate?Hey Mohammed / Martin-
I bought an INQ Mini 3G phone from an Aircel store. They helped me unlock the phone so that I can use my Airtel sim card. Seems, the unlocking etc worked well and I am able to send and receive calls/sms.
It's been 3 whole days I am running around for simple internet settings to get my Airtel Mobile office GPRS working - Absolutely no luck. You phone/Email 1-800 number for INQ support folks are courteous. But courtesy does not help me if my issue is not resolved. They did walk thru me on the phone for 2 or 3 times- but I was never able to connect. They sent me the settings through email too. I ve tried it all and it doesn't work. Simple error "Cannot Connect". When I call Airtel, these folks ask me to contact my phone vendor as they don't ve workflow's stuff for INQ Mini 3G Mobile.
However I was asked to call the Reddington Service Center - in Infrantry Road Bangalore.
Phone Numbers that the support rep gave was:
080 22868889
080 22863034
080 41494094
Mobile: 9036901878
None of these numbers work :( I mean what kind of support is this?
Will some one help me?
Jai

Hello Jay, I hope you are talking about the facebook and twitter applications alone. Does the browser work? -
Inappropriate?Hey Martin,
Any update to make Facebook / Twitter work on Unlocked Chat 3G? Still struggling to find some way out... -
thanks subhadip i m a vodafone user in india and only because of u i m able to access my wap services in inq mini 3g handset ...thanks again....:-) -
Hi Suphadip, we've identified an issue with our unlocked software when running on certain networks, whereby applications won't update automatically. Updates must be manually requested (eg Facebook > Options > Refresh; Twitter > Options > Refresh). This workaround means content is delivered to each application, and the home screen widgets; but it is only a workaround, since the handset was designed to update automatically.
I realise this is not ideal, and we are investigating a more permanent solution. As and when I have more information for you, I will post on the forum here at Get Satisfaction.
regards,
Martin -
Hi Martin,
I have tried the manual update option for all the apps that dont work. They do not update. The only one that did update was Google Maps. And this update only took place after changing the connection settings for Goggle Maps aps. I guess only this app lets you change the setting.
I am eager for a full software update and time line? Just one more request on behalf of all Unlocked INQ Chat 3G users... please have a generic software and not with Aircel Icons all around.
Cheers!!

Inappropriate?@anupaswal28
I have tried all possible options. What i have seen is that the default application do have any settings option. They are hard coded in the phone software. Unless i have access to the software codes i cannot see this. I had written to INQ about this but did not get any response. -
Inappropriate?Hi,,,,can anyone Help me to Unlock My Inq Chat 3g...i Can provide my Imei code just help me.....the provider is from 3 in uk...and i want to use globe here in philippines,,,tnxx
-
Inappropriate?You need to contact 3 UK first - http://www.three.co.uk/Help_Support/C...
Ask them to unlock your phone and they should provide you with the NCK code.
Unfortunately this service isn't free so you'll be charged at the equivalent of 15GBP.
There is a software solution called DC Unlocker, while not free it's still cheaper than unlocking from the operator.
Just be aware that if use you local SIM card Skype and WLM will not work because they're coded to run only on Three's local network.
You can however still download and run generic versions of the software but data would be charged at your current tariff.

can u provide me update softwere by mail
my mail id is nagar.yogesh@gmail.com
thanks
Yogesh -
hi yogesh
they can send you the software by email. i just donno why they are saying "No" here. I have a very bad experience of going to the service center people out thr didnt help me in anyway. they just formatted the cellphone without updating the version. they even dont have any knowledge of softwareand version. I received the software from INQ and i updated my version within 15 mins, for which service center took 3 hrs.
Also, i am seeing no use in updating the version as still no application is working, just simple browser is working which was anyway working with the previous version.
I bought this phone because of lack of information on internet. But now i think we people should update the reviews on the sites like mouthshut.com so that people will know what they will going to face before buying this wonderful mobile. Really I have no problem with this mobile its really nice and great, just the service is been very pathetic.

Jero
My provider is Vodafone i had to unlock it before. yeah but u r right if u update with the software link i gave, it may installed the Aircel customize version. i believe its better if u ask for same kind of Link from the UK customer care, from where u got this cell.
Gaurav -
Inappropriate?Hi Yogesh
Unfortunately it's not possible to send software via email. The best way to update the software on your handset is to visit one of our service centres. You can find your nearest service centre by clicking this link.

Martin -

-
Inappropriate? Please provide me the new version settings on my email - ashutoshpritam@gmail.com.
-
Hello was that message for me? about the BSNL settings?
All i did was deleted all the Aircel settings from the connectivity> network access point and then entered the settings as
new
Connection name : BSNL ( can be anything)
Access Point name : gprssouth.cellone.in
the remaining are default.
Then go to the browser setting.
setting> advansed > network settings > then on a not defined click options and edit
Account name : BSNL
network access point : BSNL
the remaining are default.
These settings work for me , even the widgets work.
My firmware is version .56 and is a unlocked inq cgat 3g -
Inappropriate?Hi Martin:
Went to the service center (Khurana Brtothers : Auth. by Reddington India, Vikas Marg, New Delhi 92). The idiots kept my phone for 3 days, called me to the service center twice and still did not update my software......please send it to me by email ASAP...i will do it myself....
I’m frustrated
-
Hi Anadi - so sorry to hear you have had such a poor experience from our service centre. This is clearly unacceptable, and I fully understand your frustration. Could I ask you to drop me an email to the following address:
support@inqmobile.com
with your contact details (phone number is enough). I will ask one of our service managers to call you to solve the problem.
Once again, please accept my apologies that our service was not up to standard.
regards,
Martin
