Unlocking your INQ handset in India

INQ Chat 3G and INQ Mini 3G were designed to work on the Aircel network, but can be used on any network in India. To use your INQ handset on a network other than Aircel, there are 3 steps:

1. Unlock your handset.
2. Make sure you have the latest software.
3. Apply the correct network settings.

By far the easiest way to do this is to visit one of our service centres located around India. To find your nearest INQ service centre, click here. You'll need Adobe PDF reader.

INQ staff will help you to unlock and update your handset and change your network settings in person. Alternatively please call our free support hotline: 1800 1025 366.

If you’d rather update the phone yourself, here’s how:

1. Unlock your handset.
Call our free support hotline: 1800 1025 366 and quote your IMEI number (you’ll find your IMEI printed on a label under the battery on your INQ handset). You’ll be given an unlock code. Insert your new network SIM and start the handset. You will now be prompted to enter the unlock code.

2. Check you have the latest software.
We’ve optimized the software on our phones to work on any network. To check you have the latest software, from the home screen enter the following:

* 2 5 8 0 [down (ie press the lower edge of the round red navigation key)]

You’ll see an “App version” reference, starting INQQ1_V1.0.XXX. If it reads

INQQ1_V1.0.63

you have the latest software, and you’re ready to apply network settings. If the last 2 digits are lower than 63, you need to update the software: please call 1800 1025 366 or visit your nearest INQ service centre.

3. Apply the correct network settings.
If you don’t know your new network settings (ie access point names, proxies and web addresses), please call 1800 1025 366 or visit your nearest INQ service centre.

If you know your new network settings (i.e. access point names, IP and portal addresses) you can update your INQ phone yourself. Follow the steps below to update your network settings.

Update your network settings

To change your phone’s settings to a new network provider there are three steps:
1. Add the new network settings
2. Tell your phone’s browser to use these settings
3. Tell your phone’s MMS system to use these settings

1. Add the new network settings:
- Press the MENU key and select Settings
- Select Connectivity > Network Access Point
- Delete all current entries by selecting Options > Delete. There should be no information left on the screen
- To send and receive data on your phone, you will need to set up three new Access Points for Internet, WAP and MMS. You must set up the Internet access point first. This is the profile that your operator provides for open access to the internet without needing a proxy or gateway. This profile must be at the top of the Network Access Point list.

* To set up the Internet access point
- Select Options > New
- Add your new network provider’s settings, including the connection name (e.g. Network Internet) and access point name (e.g. network.gprs). Please ensure the access point name is entered exactly as shown, with no additional spaces, symbols or upper/lower case. Once this information has been entered, select Done.

* To set up the WAP access point
- Select Options > New
- Add your new network provider’s settings, including the connection name (e.g. Network WAP) and access point name (e.g. network.wap). Please ensure the access point name is entered exactly as shown, with no additional spaces, symbols or upper/lower case. Once this information has been entered, select Done.

* To set up the MMS access point
- Select Options > New
- Add your new network provider’s settings, including the connection name (e.g. Network MMS) and access point name (e.g. network.mms). Please ensure the access point name is entered exactly as shown, with no additional spaces, symbols or upper/lower case. Once this information has been entered, select Done.

2. Tell your phone’s browser to use these settings:
- Press the MENU key and select Browser
- Select Settings > Advanced > Networks Settings
- Scroll to an empty account (shown as “Not defined” on screen) and select Options > Edit
- Select Account name and enter the WAP connection name you created previously (e.g. Network WAP)
- Select OK
- Select Homepage
- Enter the URL of your new network provider’s portal (e.g. http://www.yournetwork.co.in)
- Select OK
- Scroll to WAP Gateway and select it
- Enter the IP address of your new network provider’s proxy-gateway (e.g. 100.100.001.100)
- Scroll down and insert the Port number for your network provider’s proxy-gateway (e.g. 9201)
- Scroll down and insert the Username and Password for your network provider’s proxy-gateway, if you received one from your network provider
- Select OK
- Scroll to Network Access Point and select it
- Scroll to the WAP access point name you created (e.g. network.wap) and select it
- Select Back
- Scroll to the account you have just created and select Activate. You should now be able to access the internet using your phone’s built in web browser

3. Tell your phone’s MMS system to use these settings:
- Press the MENU key and select Messages
- Select Settings > Text and Picture Messaging > Picture Message Account
- Scroll to an empty account (shown as “Not defined” on screen) and select Options > Edit
- Select Account name and enter the MMS connection name you created previously (e.g. Network MMS)
- Select OK
- Scroll to Picture messages centre and select it
- Enter the URL of your new network provider’s picture messages centre (e.g. http://www.yournetwork.co.in/mms)
- Select OK
- Scroll to WAP Gateway and select it
- Enter the IP address of your new network provider’s portal (e.g. 100.100.001.100)
- Scroll down and insert the Port Number of your new network provider’s proxy gateway (e.g. 9201)
- Scroll down and insert the Username and Password of your new network provider’s proxy gateway, if required by your network provider
- Select OK
- Scroll to Network Access Point and select it
- Scroll to the MMS access point name you created (e.g. network.mms) and select it
- Select Back
- Scroll to the account you have just created and select Activate. You should now be able to send and receive picture messages to and from your phone.

Troubleshooting
If you’ve followed the instructions above and the applications are not working, please check the following:

1. Are all the settings entered correctly (please note that settings for your mobile network provider may differ, depending on whether you have a prepaid or post paid account)?
2. Is your data service correctly provisioned (has your operator allowed internet access on your account)?
3. Do you have enough credit on your account to use internet services (prepaid accounts only)?

If you still have questions, or problems using services on your INQ phone, please call 1800 1025 366 or send us an email to support@inqmobile.com.
