Great app but....
When I double click on a favorite the options pop up appears i.e. sms/email/call. If I click on a few favorites I find that the pop up flies off the left side of the sreen and the app crashes. I am on OS3.0 on an iphone 3GS.
Just a note that the icon for Favorites will change in version 1.0.9. It's still the same application, and the updates are still free etc - only the icon will change slightly. I just thought I'd best let you know in case anyone was puzzled after the next update is approved by Apple.
There's a known issue with iPhone OS 3.0 which affects any third-party application that dials phone-numbers; this of course includes Favorites.
Apple had added an extra confirmation window when dialing a number; it basically shows the number about to be dialled, and asks the user if they're sure they want to proceed. This was presumably added in an attempt to protect users again fraudulent calls to expensive numbers. Note that this alert only affects phonecalls; it doesn't appear for SMS messages or emails.
The thing is, the developer documentation states that this alert will NOT be shown for apps which initiate calls directly (as Favorites does). However, clearly either the developer documentation is incorrect or there's a bug in iPhone OS 3.0.
Since this extra alert happens at the system level whenever a call is initiated by any third-party app, we're currently powerless to get rid of it. We've already raised the issue as a bug with Apple (as have the developers of several other iPhone applications), and we're awaiting a response and a fix or workaround for the issue. As soon as such a workaround is available, we'll of course immediately update Favorites (if necessary).
This is a frustrating state of affairs for everyone; for us just as much as for users of Favorites, believe me. It's our hope that Apple will provide a way to get rid of this annoying alert soon.
Regarding OS 3.0 compatibility in general, there were also some visual issues with the Overlay which have now been fixed in the new version 1.0.9 of Favorites, which I submitted to Apple on Sunday 14th June 2009, and which should be available in iTunes as soon as it's approved.
I'm running iPhone 3.0 Beta 5 and FYI your software does not work. Now instead of directly dialing a contact it pops up a dialogue box asking if you want to dial the number you just told it to dial.... !!! Needs a FIX for 3.0
The application should automatically add all Favorites saved in standard iPhone dialer so as to match the name of your program. Also, when will more pages be available?
If a contact has a home number and a mobile number then how does it know which one to dial by default? And how can I define this - do I need to have 2 entries for the same contact?
The screen that shows all the Phone numbers or email address for a contact, needs to be FAR more readable in strong lighting conditions, there is not enough contrast between the text colour and the background colour.
If I only enter 4 contacts, will those 4 just be at the top with unused space showing in rest of screen? Or is there a feature to select that you are showing only 4 contacts thus their pics occupy the entire screen respectively?
Or is this app really meant for the user to fill the entire screen with contacts?
Would appreciate if you guys could further improve the layouts, similar to the free app like superdial (http://www.projectketchup.com/superdial/). If they can do it, i believe you guys can do better since this is a paid app. Looking forward to the new updates :)
With names set to be hidden, it'd be nice if contacts without photos, could be easier to identify. Maybe the generic person icon could be watermarked with the contacts name?
The major issue I'm seeing is the fact that I have to wait 3-4 seconds for the app to launch.
Although the blue-star-on-black-background splashscreen looks stylish, I'd suggest (if technically possible) to open up as fast as possible the grid view with generic avatars ("silhouettes") and then having the real pictures replacing the silhouettes afterwards but in the mean time, impatient users could touch a generic avatar to fire the phone call even if the picture has not yet loaded.... I don't know if you see what I mean
Just a note that I'm currently working on a new feature where, when viewing the Overlay for a favorite, you'll be able to quickly pick any of that contact's phone-numbers or email addresses to use for a call, text or email.
This won't affect the default phone/text/email settings for the favorite, but will let you quickly access any of their other numbers or addresses without having to change the favorite's settings or make an extra favorite.
I plan to make this feature available in Favorites 1.0.4, which will hopefully be available in iTunes sometime during the week of Monday 17th - Friday 21st November.
Right now the default action is defined at the application level. I think it would make more sense to define it at the contact level. I have some contacts which I mostly use SMS with them and it would be great to specify that as their default action. Other emails, other phone.
Overall this is really, really good. Congrats Matt.
I have Favorites 1.0.2 installed on iPhone 3G 2.1, and it's a great application but when I double-tap a contact to pull up the options, and choose email - it always crashes. This happens for any contact.
FAVORITES doesn't dial my voice mailbox number which includes pauses and codes for a total of 20+ characters. I call my voice mailbox several times a day. How can I do this using FAVORITES?
