Faster startup?
Your app is great, thanks Matt!
The major issue I'm seeing is the fact that I have to wait 3-4 seconds for the app to launch.
Although the blue-star-on-black-background splashscreen looks stylish, I'd suggest (if technically possible) to open up as fast as possible the grid view with generic avatars ("silhouettes") and then having the real pictures replacing the silhouettes afterwards but in the mean time, impatient users could touch a generic avatar to fire the phone call even if the picture has not yet loaded.... I don't know if you see what I mean

Hi again all,
Just a note that I've made some progress on speeding up the launch process. What I've done is two things: firstly, the main screen's user interface is now created entirely in code (which helps slightly), and also I now load the pictures for your contacts in the background, once the app has launched (which helps more).
The effect of this is that Favorites should launch faster and your favorites should be available to you sooner - though they will initially not have their pictures inside, and the pictures will fill-in automatically a moment later. You can still interact with the favorites as soon as you see them, so you can trigger a favorite (or the Overlay) even before all the pictures have been loaded. This should let you use Favorites without having to wait so long at launch.
I'm continuing to explore further ways to boost performance, but I wanted to get this fix out to you so I've submitted version 1.0.3 to Apple today (Saturday 8th November). Hopefully it'll be available around the middle of next week (perhaps Wednesday 12th).
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Hi Zeno,
Faster startup is definitely the joint most popular feature-request (along with multiple pages of favorites), and rest assured that I'm working on it. I'm exploring various ways to achieve a quicker launch time, but the workflow you describe is likely to be how it's implemented.
I'll keep you posted on progress.

Inappropriate?Hi all,
Favorites 1.0.3 is now available via iTunes, a day earlier than expected. :)
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Yes of course, I updated to 1.0.3 this morning... and it launches faster, cool!
I've now turned on the "Show names" option... to "give a name" to the silhouettes ;-)

Inappropriate?Hi all,
Just a note that Favorites 1.0.5 will be out sometime in the next few days, and once that happens I'll submit Favorites 1.0.6 to Apple. Version 1.0.6 will show the names of your favorites whilst their pictures are still loading, even if you've disabled showing names normally.
This should make it much easier to see which favorite is for which contact, even if their images haven't loaded yet and you've chosen not to display their names.

Inappropriate?Hi all,
Favorites 1.0.6 is now available (as of Tuesday 9th December) via iTunes. This version shows you the names of your contacts whilst their images are still loading, even if you've disabled showing the names normally.

Inappropriate?Tested.
It works beautifully.
I could finally turn off the "Show names" setting :-)
