Great! glad to hear it is working for you.
I've officially released this version .. 1.1.1 ... and it no longer requires fopen wrappers to be enabled as long as you have curl, instead.
If other people are having this problem, simply upgrade to the latest build.

Inappropriate? That's a new one. Your ISP has "url-fopen-wrappers" turned off.
Can you get them to enable it?
Does the standard Joomla! "install from web" work for you?
-
Inappropriate? Is this the sort of thing that could be solved by a php.ini file?
If not, I'll ask Dreamhost about it.
Just checked. The dreamhost wiki says:
"Enabling allow_url_fopen is a terrible idea that exposes your website, and the websites of others on your shared server, to unnecessary risk."
-
Inappropriate?Yes, that's a php.ini setting:
allow_url_fopen On
In the next version, I'm going to move all the fopen stuff over to native php / sockets code, but that's not quite there yet. -
Inappropriate?I made the changes per a dreamhost wiki article. Whenever I uncomment 'Action php5-cgi /cgi-bin/php-wrapper.cgi' in my .htaccess file, the site throws a 500 error.
I'm already way past my depth here, so think I will just be patient for the php/sockets support. -
Inappropriate?question: do you know if your system supports CURL? I could go that direction as well.
Also, I need to check: can you install components using the standard joomla installer (the "install from url" part at the bottom)? Or does that give an error as well.
I'm looking to cover all the bases here .... -
Inappropriate?Actually, Nick, no I can't install using the 'install from ulr' either. This must explain why!
Dreamhost does seem to support CURL if I'm interpreting the first sentence of this wiki page correctly: <http://wiki.dreamhost.com/CURL>
Thanks for all your help with this. And on a Saturday, not less! -
Inappropriate?Bingo, that's great. I have a hack that I want you to try ... the official version will need a little more work than I can put in right now.
Your welcome, I am sooooo really committed to making this software work for you (and everyone, actually). But I am going to be offline later this afternoon :-> -
Inappropriate?Sorry, I meant to ask ... can you put in a support ticket at http://www.intellispire.com/support ... that way I can send you the link to the prototype directly.
This would be sooo cool .. the updater working in places where Joomla! core can't. Then all I'd have to do is fix FTP mode .... -
Inappropriate?Already done. Ticket YPE-339210 submitted on the 28th.
-
Inappropriate?Did you receive a response to the ticket? I'm not seeing it in the system ... its' probably our fault, I blew it up causing an endless loop and may have lost data (I didn't think so, though) ....
In any case this is a little more complicated than it should be. I need to take about a few more hours to work this through, and will release a test update later this evening or tomorrow afternoon.
Hold tight, we'll get it working. -
Inappropriate? It's in the Updater Professional department. I submitted a second one there, too.
-
Inappropriate?Found it. Fixed. There was a major problem with the keyboard to chair interface.
-
Inappropriate?Experimental support for CURL is in the latest code sent via. the support system. If that works for you, I'll do a full release after a little more testing.
