Can IDC email the author of a Wordpress Blogpost?
In Wordpress normally when someone leaves a new comment to a blogpost, the author of that blogpost gets an email informing them of that fact. I see that IDC emails admins (of the blog in IDC I guess) on a new comment but is there a way to allow the above functionality?
It is a really useful tool to keep the conversation going as without it an author might not be aware that someone has commented on his post.
Since you are using a WP plugin, it should be possible to grab the authors email address from there. The option to send emails to the authors could then be put in the plugin's config.

Inappropriate? We do have this functionality. Please check out your blog settings page at http://intensedebate.com . Please select the tab named after your blog and then the "Settings" sub-tab.
Unfortunately we're having outbound email issues, but this is our top priority and we'll have everything up and running as soon as possible.
Thanks for your patience.

Inappropriate?Michael, I have checked this page and it only mentions emailing "admins". I assumed that meant the admins I've set up in settings page.
However I don't want to mail all admins when a new comment is posted
A. Because not all of them are necessarily interested in a comment discussion on a post they did not write
B. Because not all of them are registered in IDC
That is assuming that admin != author. If it is, perhaps it could be more obvious?

Inappropriate?I just tested it with an author that is not an admin and it didn't work. He was not emailed once a comment was put on his newest post.

Unfortunately we can't email a blog author if he isn't an admin. I apologize for the inconvenience. This is definitely something that we're going to look into. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. -
Inappropriate? This setting is determined on a user-basis. Go to "Edit Profile" and under "Email Notifications" select "Email me whenever someone replies to my comment."

Inappropriate?Jasonz, I am not asking how you can get emails when someone responds to your comment. That is already apparent. I ́d like an email to be sent to the article author when a comment is posted to it.
Currently this is only somewhat possible if the author visited the article after he finished and subscribed to the comment rss (which is general too much of a hassle to do on every article) or if he subscribes to every comment on the blog (or I add him as an admin in IDC). The later option would mean however that he would get all comments, even on articles he is not interested in (like in a multi-author blog)
An option to email the author of an article on new comments is perfect to retain conversation with a minimum fuss. It is also standard in Wordpress.

Inappropriate?Got it. I actually mentioned this about two weeks back to ID - it's in the queue, but not at the top of the list at the moment. The more requests there are for it, though, the higher priority it'll get, so thanks for posting this.

Inappropriate?Just an update. This is a feature we're seriously considering now and is probably a couple of weeks out (while that is always subject to change).
Thanks again,
Michael
I’m excited

Thanks for this :) -
My pleasure. Thanks for the feedback. Cheers -
Inappropriate?Is this functionality available now?
In addition, I use Mark Jaquith's fantastic Subscribe to Comments plugin. Many of my old commentators are subscribed, but the plugin doesn't fire when ID syncs new comments back to the db.
Isn't ID triggering the comment_post action in WordPress?

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate? It's been over a year since Michael said it was "a couple of weeks out" but I don't believe it's enabled yet. Am I wrong?
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate? As far as I can tell it's not. In another thread from about 9 months ago they seemed to indicate it wasn't a priority. To bad, because it's really the only feature missing for my needs (but a pretty big one when you have multiple authors...)
I’m disappointed
