HTML code in comments?
An HTML link does not work in my comments. I checked through my settings but did not see anything. Is HTML functional in ID?

We're still open minded on the topic, but part of it is reputation and part of it is subsequent replies. If you or anyone else has an opinion we'd love to hear it.

At this time we do parse out any urls (for example http://www.intensedebate.com will be made into a link if in a comment), but do not offer any HTML support. This is something we're looking at as a future feature though.

Inappropriate?I would definitely second the proposition of allowing the use of html in comments, maybe just simple tags like those that blogger allows. It would be really nice if you could combine the parsing ability with html. That way a link would be functional whether someone uses html or not.
Another bug I noticed is that when I enter a url into the comments field, if I follow the url with a period, the period is tacked onto the end of the url. An example can be found in the comments on this page: http://ipostupost.blogspot.com/2008/0.... Look for Kaitlyn's second post (in the first one, she tried to use html).
I will probably start another topic about this if there is not one already, but how about giving users who are not signed up for Intense Debate the ability to delete their own posts?
I’m confident that Intense Debate will take care of these issues.

Inappropriate? Thanks for pointing out the bug with the period. I'll get this fixed asap.
Filtering the anchor tag is also a good approach.
We hope to implement some basic text formatting (including some basic HTML support) in the future.
And as for the deleting posts idea, we're considering adding in the option to edit/delete a comment for a short period of time to fix typos or whatever. Would this be sufficient? -
Inappropriate?Great! Some basic text formatting would be nice. Then I don't think the html stuff would be as necessary.
I think being able to edit/delete a comment for a short time would be a really great addition as well. Is there any particular reason that you don't want people to be able to delete their posts later? I understand that they are building reputation points, and that deleting posts might mess with that system.
If people are able to preview their posts for a little bit and then edit them, that might be sufficient. Blogger allows users to delete their own comments at any time (I think), which I think is a nice option in case you really want to erase whatever you said. -

Inappropriate?Let's say a thread had started on a comment and then the original poster deletes his post. I think it'd be necessary to have some sort of anchor to keep all the other posts up. For instance, the deleted post could be replaced with a note that says, "this post was deleted by the author," which is how blogger works. It makes for a fairly ugly commenting page if several people have deleted their comments.
So, I guess my opinion is that people should have a limited amount of time to edit or delete posts and then after that time, that right would be reserved only by the blog administrator.
Also, I noticed on my blog that if somebody posts a simple "__.com" link without adding "http://www," it does not parse out as a url. Is it possible to make those become links as well? -
Inappropriate?I'd definitely like to be able to have some html functionality. It would be great for people to be able to post images in their comments.

I agree that the ability to post images would be awesome and I think way ahead of most other comment services. -
Inappropriate? The new ability for users to edit or delete posts is wonderful, but I'm still encountering a bug or two. One very minor thing is that where I'm given the option to edit or delete, there is no space between "edit" and "delete." That's a purely aesthetic issue.
A bigger issue is that urls are still not parsing correctly if I put a period or parenthetical or anything else directly after the url without putting in a space. With the new editing option, this isn't a huge problem because I can always fix it.
However, when I click edit and go in to fix it, the html coding that has occurred in order to turn the url into a link doubles and creates a link that is even more incorrect than the first one. In order to fix that, I have to erase all the html tags until I am back to the simple url and then add a space before the period that was causing the problem in the first place.
I’m hoping this can be resolved pretty easily. It's annoying.

Inappropriate?I'd like it if you allowed us to specify what tags are allowed. I've seen this on some WordPress blogs (maybe it's a feature? I don't use WordPress so I don't know).
We could give you something like this for allowed tags:
<a href="" title=""><i><b><em><strong><u>
You'd want to limit the attributes in the tags that you allow--for instance, I don't want users to be able to use the "target" attribute on an anchor tag, and I certainly don't want users inserting JavaScript (with the "onClick" attribute, for example). Anything a user offers that does not match would get escaped to <a href="blahblah" onclick="blahblah">
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate?Yes, I hope HTML Tag will be supported soon, because almost my ORIGINAL WordPress comment containing HTML tags, so it's look weird now :(
