ID WordPress plugin causing severe performance issues
ID WordPress plugin on my blog (1WineDude.com) is causing sever performance issues. I've had to deactivate the plugin to get the site back on-line. Even the wp-admin interface was impacted.

Inappropriate?Hi Joe,
It looks like you've re-enabled ID on your site again, although I still get some pretty slow load times on page loads. I'm running Firebug (http://getfirebug.com/) and using the "Net" panel, I'm seeing that some of the widgets you have in your sidebar are loading really slowly, I wonder if that was related?
Also, loading a single page on your site loads 1.4Mb of data -- that's a LOT :)
The next release of the ID plugin will include more performance optimizations, so you should only see us get faster over time ;) -
Thanks! I did re-enable, I've also been checking with the hosting provider to see if there were any issues around the same time but you can guess their answer...
I can confirm that performance turned to normal when I disabled the ID plugin, though I'm not sure if that was coincidental or not.
I'd love to know which widgets were loading slowly?
Thanks! -

Actually the more I do it, the more I see that it varies between different external resources. Loading as many different things as you do, there's a lot of leeway for things to compete for load speed. It takes 113 requests to load a page!
The last time I loaded, noticeably slow resources came from facebook.com, winecliq.com, clearspring.com, zedo.com and mybloglog.com.
Hope that helps. -
Inappropriate?Thanks, man!
This helps me a lot in terms of trying to optimize the site a bit.
It doesn't explain though why the site failed to load at all and returned 500 errors, and also couldn't load the wp-admin pages, when the ID plugin was active yesterday.
Would a connectivity issue between the plugin at my hosted site and the ID infrastructure cause that to happen? -
Inappropriate?A 500 error is an "Internal Server" error, so it's possible it was either on your end or our end, although I'm not aware of any downtime on our systems. I guess it's possible that there was a temporary issue on your server perhaps?
I really don't know I'm afraid - are you able to enable the plugin again and see what happens this time?
Cheers,
Beau -
Inappropriate?Oh, it's been re-enabled for some time and performance is fine. Word from the provider is that they aren't aware of any server issues during that time. The reason I pegged the issue on the ID plug-in is that the ID plug-in has been confirmed to have caused two issues in the past where the behavior was exactly the same as during this issue, and disabling the ID plug-in seemed to correct the problem.
From what I can tell, if there is an issue with the plug-in contacting your servers, the site performance gets so bad that eventually it times out. -
Inappropriate? We've got some changes coming in v2.4 that are largely aimed at improving performance, so once that's released (hopefully this week), you should see even better performance ;)

Inappropriate? The problem is happening again right now at 8:45 PM ET on Aug. 3rd. I know it's ID causing the issue with my site performance, or at least I strongly suspect it, because the ID homepage itself is returning a 504 error (when it didn't, intensedebate.com site performance was extremely slow).
Also, all of the comments in my posts disappeared during the time of the performance hit.
I’m saddened

I had this problem too (same time frame) but looks like it has been resolved. Probably a 'server hiccup'!
