Must repeatedly approve already-approved commenters
I run a WordPress blog with ID that I use for a class I teach. In my ID settings, I have "Comment author must have a previously approved comment" checked. I have approved all of my students repeatedly, but I still have to moderate every single comment they make. Needless to say, this is annoying. Any way I can fix this?

Inappropriate? Are they definitely commenting using the same details (email etc) each time? Could you by chance point me to an example (feel free to email to support@intensedebate.com if you'd prefer it not be public) so I can see the details being used and figure out why it's not matching them?
Thanks -
Inappropriate? We have the same problem. Not sure how to point you to an example though.

Inappropriate?Deona, if you can point me to 2 comments on a public blog that you've had to approve, which come from the same person/user, then that'd be a great start for me to figure out what's going on ;)
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Based on looking at those 2 comments, I think what's happening is that the user is comment "anonymously" (they're not logged into any account), so our system is treating them as a new user every time.
I'm going to look into it and confirm that that's the case. If so, I'll look at changing it so that if it's anonymous, but the email address matches an approved comment, then it'll be automatically approved :)
Thanks!

Inappropriate? Thanks Beau. I believe most of the people commenting on our site are not logged into any account. It would be great if you could fix it!

Inappropriate?I think what's happening is that if I approve the comments on the WordPress blog, I have to keep approving them, but if I go to the IntenseDebate site & approve them there, they're approved. I think that's the case. Does that make sense?
-
Inappropriate? That's quite possibly/likely. Ideally, if you're using IntenseDebate then you should aim to do all comment management using IntenseDebate tools. That means the Enhanced Moderation panel, or intensedebate.com.
Using the WordPress Dashboard widget (or WP's comment moderation panel) *should* work, but it often just creates more complexity than is worth the convenience (because those details are then required to sync back to ID before you can see the results on your site, and that can often just cause more confusion).
We are always improving our syncing, but I always strongly recommend that people only use the moderation tools provided directly by ID if they're using ID on a site, because it just reduces the number of "hops" required for anything to happen. -
Inappropriate?I am trying the approving on the ID website, but it seems I am still approving an awful lot of repeat posters. Heck, my other admin who also approves comments had to approve her own comment!
