Taking IntenseDebate's XML Export and Importing Back into WordPress 2.7
How can I import my comments xml file from IntenseDebate back into WordPress? I've been having the sync issues where 99% of my comments in IntenseDebate are not syncing over to WordPress. The old legacy plugin export feature generates a code error, so my only option now is to try and import the .xml file that I get when choosing "Export Comments to XML" in IntenseDebate.
I have my .XML file now, but just don't know how to import it back into WordPress, and haven't seen any instructions. In WordPress Admin, Under Tools > Import , there are lots of import features - the only one I can imagine would work for an .xml file would be the RSS import; however, it doesn't indicate that it imports comments, only posts.
Also, although I do not care if I duplicate some comments on the import, I *MOST DEFINITELY* don't want to duplicate posts.
I'd love a response from someone at IntenseDebate with a step-by-step on how to take my .xml file from ID and import into WP.
Thanks a million.

Hi Alec,
Under normal circumstances, you shouldn't need to use the XML export to import back into WordPress, because the plugin syncs with WordPress to keep your comments in 2 places at all times.
That being said, there is not an "off the shelf" solution to taking the XML file from ID and importing directly into WP. You'd need some sort of custom parser/importer script, which would read the XML and match up comments with posts within WordPress.
That's something that we might provide in the future, but do not currently have available.
If you don't *urgently* need to import back into WordPress, another option is to wait on the new healing-sync system that's in the works, which should go back and "patch up" your comments, so that both system match. That feature should roll out in the next few weeks, and will automatically start fixing up any sync discrepancies you have.
Cheers,
Beau

Inappropriate?Hi Fred,
We're doing some work on the legacy exporter which should get the job done. Unfortunately that's the only available option.
We'll get this figured out! Thanks again for your patience.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Hi Michael,
I need some help with this as well.
What's the best way to take the IntenseDebate file back into Wordpress?
I’m thankful.

Inappropriate?Hi Beau,
Thanks for the lowdown.
We do need it pretty urgently for a Typepad weblog that we are moving to Wordpress.
I find it a bit rich that you guys are advertising very vocally two way syncing on your website when in fact no such functionality exists.
So we are coding a custom XML converter to Wordpress right now.
Would you care to purchase the code from us when it's finished?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Alec, are you using ID on your Typepad blog? Are you trying to import ID comments from TP to WP?
-
Inappropriate?Hi Michael,
We have Typepad comments which are not in Intense Debate and Intense Debate commments.
Wordpress is fresh with none of the comments (well Typepad comments as we've moved them).
We'd like to amalgamate the Typepad and Intense Debate comments in a single Wordpress database and use our built-in Wordpress anti-spam systems (somewhat similar to Intense Debate but faster to load as local).
I think what you guys are doing is great but this particular client would be better served by having all the data local and some custom routines applied to it.
Any help you guys could give us to get the Intense Debate comments into Wordpress would be much appreciated.
As I mentioned, Typepad comments have already been successfully moved. Getting our comments back from Intense Debate is the holdup now.
I’m hopeful.

Inappropriate?Alec,
First off, sorry for the confusion. The two way sync that we advertise is only for WordPress. We'd love to offer it for Typepad but there are certain limitations with TP that prevent this.
If you're wanting to take comments that have only ever existed in ID and get them out to a new WP installation, then exporting the XML and doing a custom import into WP is going to be the only practical way of doing that. I'm happy to run an eye over the import script you write for WP as a sanity check if you think that would help. Unfortunately we're not currently looking to purchase code. -
Inappropriate? Please explain how to do the custom import in WP. I tried that, but WP won't do it. Is there some special voodoo which needs to be done to the ID XML export for WP to accept it?
I’m confused
