Will IntenseDebate filter spam comments when comments are imported?
I have a large blog (5k posts, 90k comments) and 60% of the comments are spam. I'm importing this blog content into WordPress and want to use IntenseDebate with the blog. Will IntenseDebate analyze comments on import and remove the spam?
A second question is obviously - can IntenseDebate handle an import this large?

Inappropriate?Hi there,
IntenseDebate should handle the size of the import without too much problem, it will just take quite a while (measured in hours for something that big). You don't need to be at your computer the whole time though, just leave the plugin enabled and WordPress and our system will handle the import.
As for importing the spam; if the comments are already marked as spam in your WordPress install, then ID will keep them marked as spam when they're imported (so they won't suddenly appear on your blog). If they're *not* marked as spam yet, then the best thing to do is install Akismet and run it over everything so that it detects all the spam, then when that's done, import everything over to IntenseDebate.
Hope that answers everything -- please feel free to ask some more if not :)
Cheers,
Beau

Inappropriate?I have a related question: I'm currently using Disqus on one WP blog and ID on another but have been thinking about switching to ID on the first because of problems with Disqus they just can't seem to fix. But I've spent a LOT of time flagging old comment spam that Disqus and Aksimet somehow didn't catch initially. when we started using Disqus. As I started thinking about switching from Disqus, it occurred to me to ask them whether all the posts I'd marked as spam in the Disqus database would also be marked as such in the WP database. Turns out the answer is no.
So that means that if I switch to ID, I may have to reflag whatever ID/Aksimet doesn't identify as spam. It may ultimately be worth doing that but I want to make sure that I'm not going to have the same problem with ID in the future. That is, if I mark something as spam in ID, will that be synced with the WP database? Or does ID also keep the spam data in its own database?
I REALLY don't want to spend any more time flagging stuff as spam in any system where all that hard work depends on my sticking with the system. In short, if the spam data isn't portable, the system isn't worth using.
I really like ID so I'm hoping this won't be a problem if I switch! -
Inappropriate?Hi Berin,
The short answer is that ID does its best to sync *all* changes to comments made at intensedebate.com (including moderation, content edits, etc) back over to WP.
I say "does its best", because once in a while some bits don't sync back over, but that's pretty rare, and we have some tools to help identify and fix those problems.
Unfortunately the answer to the first half of your question is that if you switch to ID, it imports the comments from your WP database. So if your WP database wasn't synced properly with Disqus, then those inconsistencies would be carried over to ID as well.
Hope that helps, but please let me know if I can give you a hand with anything else.
