How to Make Peace, by Naomi Samuel
Notice updated by Sheri Massey
How To Make Peace, by Naomi Samuel is the story of the Red people and the Blue people who are unable to understand one another and do not accept each others' differences. As they prepare to go to war with one another, the children step in and teach them about tolerance.
Members of our International Kidsteams reviewed this book and shared what they believed to be the most important parts. Max thought the most important thing about this book was “[t]he friendship between the red and blue children, because it is important to make friends in life and that the adults learn from the children” (Age 10, Germany). Oska agreed writing, “[t]he way the children aren't scared to step up to tell the adults what they think” was the most important part of the story (Age 9, New Zealand). Focusing on the overall concept of tolerance, Alma wrote: “The most important thing about this book was that the children stopped the war and made peace between red and blue people because it’s good to be at peace with very different people” (Age 10, Honduras).
“The book had a good story and meaning” wrote Mamae, “but I couldn't understand it. I think that the library should get the book in English” (Age 10, New Zealand). Sonovia felt the same way: “They should have this book in English so the people that speak and read English could read it” (Age 9, United States). How To Make Peace is currently available in the ICDL only in Hebrew. However, our kid book reviewers will be happy to know that author Naomi Samuel is allowing the English version of the book to be added to the ICDL collection! The book will still be available in Hebrew, but the addition of the English version makes it readable by many more children around the world!
